Those last two games were really good baseball games. The Rays had a great season in a tough market. Congrats to them.

Tim McCarver will miss the first two games of the ALCS on Fox, to be replaced by Terry Francona.

Woo Hoo!

How do we get rid of Joe Buck too?

Go Yankees!!!! I think they squeeze a close game out tonight with some late inning heroics. It will be a close game but the Yankee bullpen is tough as long as they can keep it close through 5 or 6 innings.

What a great game. Using CC cost the Yankees in the end that and not able to hit with runners in scoring position. After the game to me it seemed the announcers were unaware that there are Tigers fans out there. Any way bring on Texas

Gotta admit to smiling this morning when I heard that Arod is now the only player in MLB history to end his team's playoff run with a strikeout two seasons in a row. He and Texiera COMBINED (as in adding their averages together) hit .278 for the series...Arod at .111 and Tex at .177.

So much for the vaunted AL East. I know the Red Sox have some big issues to resolve over the next few months, but the yanks are not far behind in that category. Going to be very interesting off seasons in NY and Boston.

I'm now a Detroit fan for the rest of this post season. On paper the Tigers should probably have not even made the playoffs, but Leyland has gotten the most out of what he has had to work with. I would love to see Detroit vs. Milwaukee in the WS.

Interesting post. With all due respect, how do you add up two guys' averages (wrong by the way) ? What is the point there? They were a combined 5 for 36, so a .139 average was what they had. Simply adding the two together doesn't make any sense. Throw another guy in there and they were hitting .400

Regarding your second point that the Tigers should not have made the playoffs on paper, I don't get that at all. They have the best roster in their division. They should have been ashamed had they NOT made the playoffs.

Final season wins:

Yanks 97
Rangers 96
Tigers 95
Rays 91

Again, no disrespect but I don't get your point. Perhaps some sour Boston grapes?

a lousy day -baseball is over without the Yanks. Congrats to Detroit-they deserved to win. It is amazing that Yankee bats have disappeared during the playoffs past 2 years. I respect great pitching but Detroit does not have great pitching. Yanks need to take a hard look at some of their players.

A Rod and Teixera and Swisher have a lousy playoffs year in and year out!!!!

May not have the greatest pitching staff ever but they came through when they needed to

My Yankee 'dump list"

Aroid - Nuff said
Tex
Swisher - Good regular season, consistantly fails in postseason, along with Tex
Burnett - Yea, he did well in Game 4 but......
Soriano - Has an opt out clause, I am praying he uses it.
Colon - Flash in the pan.. C-ya.

And this may come as a suprise, but..

Jeter - One of the greatest Yankees of all time. Our Captain. But this guy is WAY past his prime, and aging rapidly. Time to cut him loose.

You listening Cashman?

I think Lee blowing the lead in Game 2 was the turning point of the series. Oh well. Good pitching only goes so far if you don't get timely hitting. The '71 Orioles had 4 20-game winners, 2 HOF players(Robinsons), several All-Stars(Powell, Blair,Johnson) and a 2-0 Series lead. Yet the Pirates still won. It's why I love baseball best of all.

Agreed. When you find a town that idolizes you, puts you in the spotlight and reaches the World Series it is hard to justify leaving for greener pastures. Like to give Mr. Lee the benefit of the doubt cause he states he loved being in Phila previously and he passed up better offers financially; but only he knows his motivation.

Found myself rooting for the Cards (starting to smell like the 2010 Giants) and against the Phils for the same reason I root against the Yanks. Just hate to see an uneven financial playing field.
