Congrats to the Tampa Bay Rays, 2010 AL East Champs.

And kudos to the yanks as well...despite stumbling down the stretch and losing 17 of their last 26 games, they manage to hang on for the wildcard. But unless they can find a way to turn it back on, I'm afraid it will be a short post season for the bombers.
I never EVER count the Yanks out until I know they're home drinking a beer, and watching the WS on tv.
Longoria will be just fine.

The Yankees have a major starting pitching problem. After Sabathia and Hughes they are a disaster. C.C. is tough, but he can't pitch onn one days rest.

I would not call Andy Pettitte a disaster. In fact in a hairy situation there is no one else I would rather hand the ball to.

Yeah, as long as that hairy situation occurs between innings 1 and 5.

He's good for six and that ought to be more than good enough. What I like about Andy is even when his stuff isn't great he finds a way to get what he needs. That's why his winning percentage is so high.

Gosh, that feat by Halliday makes the UAB/Central Florida game seem almost insignifigant.

Another great comeback by the Yanks. The umps even gave the Twins an extra out. If our bullpen pitches like this I like our chances. And I like Andy on the mound tonight.

It seemed to me that he was outsmarting the Reds. They were taking his fastballs and taking fastball swings at his curves. He had the Reds hitters off balance.
I couldn't believe how good his stuff was so late in the game. He was freezing batters for called strike 3's in the 8th inning. Scary.

Well I see James Shields is doing what he seems to do best lately.

Well THAT certainly sucked the BIG ONE!!!
Zobrist was lucky to get the long ball yesterday, otherwise it would have been TWO shutouts in a row. Hope the road is good for the Rays as it has been all year.
O K Where the heck is the Wharf?! I've been awaiting a well deserved razzing concerning the GREAT Tampa Bay Rays.

Eleven straight postseason losses for the Twins

Of those 11 games, eight have come against NY -- and the Twins have led in each of those eight games

Un-effin-believable

I was referring to him just learning the lesson of the 2004 ALCS.
You mean this one?

Impossible mission completed
Red Sox rout Yankees in Game 7 to finish greatest comeback ever.

I was thinking of '04 today as the Rays sank deeper and deeper.
See. It CAN happen!

If you read my earlier posts you will see that was no surprise to me. Andy is a true gamer and a true warrior. The rest of the country doesn't quite realize it because his stats don't jump out of you but he is quite a pitcher and there is nobody I would rather have up there in a key situation. And not for five innings but for as much as 7.

As a pessimistic sports fan I have pledged to stay optimistic at all times good and bad. My natural pessimism prevents me from becoming arrogant when it comes to the Yankees.

Lincecum set a San Francisco-era postseason record by striking out 14 batters and allowed only three baserunners

He had great command tonight. Go Giants!

To do this, they might want to score a run.

Or 2.

Hope this helps

Yeah. Since there is no such as negative scoring that would help wouldn't it?
I mean sure, the Rays beat the Phillies in the World Series triple aught to double aught sounds great, but .......

Rangers coming home leading the series 2-0. Will they finally win a post season series? I'll believe it when I see it.
