Greineke is on fire again, 6-1 w/47 Ks & 8 walks or so recently
what a hurler -- & he drew just 15K of those diehard Royals fans, whereas the Reds game almost sold out w/Strasburg pitching -- yeesh

well -- maybe our, "beleaguered" pitching staff will hold up for awhile now -- hopefully Beckett will have a good start -- btw I love Jacoby E., didn't mean to be too harsh on him before -- he's a great hitter, fielder & base stealer -- he plays w/abandon & that, as you said must be why they're being extra-cautious -- yadada -- go Sox

According to sources, Prince Fielder may be headed to the White Sox for a starting pitcher or Carlos Quentin as the principals.

They should have just kept Jim Thome. It would have been a much cheaper DH. There's no way Fielder will play first over Konerko so they are getting an overpriced bat.

I do. Nolan Ryan has built a team with an eye on pitching and defense, as opposed to the past when they tried to win by outslugging the opponent. There's also the heat factor in Arlington that's been blamed for wearing down Ranger teams of the past, but I believe this team could be there at the end.

So do I. I can understand having a lot of reservations given their history but I think they have all of the pieces.

OK, I'm actually going to allow myself to get interested then. Another game with the Angels tonight. We could open up a niuce little 7 game cushion with a win. What the hell is Mark Cuban doing bidding against the Ryan-Greenburg group for ownership of the team?

Well, I don't know. I've been a Ranger's fan since 1980, and every year but 2 (the Juan Gonzalez era) they've folded in late July-early August. Even then they lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Damn Yankees. So this is usually about the time they loose relevance and I loose interest. Coincides with the opening of training camp. Maybe I'll have to pay attention a little longer this year.

I'm tellin' ya, they have a shot to make some noise this year. Obviously Cliff Lee is huge. I think the biggest issue is the first round depending on who they will play in a 5-game series. Hot pitchers can take a good team down (wish they would just go to a 7-game series).


And as a Tiggers fan, don't get me going on Juan Gonzalez. Give him some more 'roids.

Rangers take 3 of 4 from the Angels at home to maintain a 7 game lead in the AL west. Josh Hamilton is on fire. We'll see where they are around August 15.

Last night the Royals were losing 19 - 0 at home going into the bottom of the ninth. I wonder how many people stuck arounf to see them score their run.

So much for the theory that pitchers must "keep the ball down" to get big league hitters out. I think that's a myth. Anybody that watched Matt Garza's no-hitter last night saw that only a handful of pitches that were down in the zone and they couldn't touch him.

I believe that major league hitters have learned to adapt, and therefore hit, low pitches through kind of a natural selection. It's all they see most of the time and they tattoo that pitch. It's the high heat they can't seem to hit.

Rangers take down the A's on a 2 run walk off homer by Cruz in the 10th. Lee goes nine, strikes out 13. Pretty exciting, and now an 8 game lead over the Angels. I'm still not convinced.

What an absolute joke. Year after f*****g year. The Royals seemingly don't have the money to compete but somehow turn a nice profit every year.

Contract the league. The superteams can have a six team league for all I care.

I hear you -- I feel the same way about the Pirates, for years my favorite NL team -- how tough though -- they do indeed have to show a profit like any business, and they do, but their overall budget is small so they can't compete -- still root for them but gave up long ago on their being able to post a winning record
