Congrats to the Astros; but boy did LA blow multiple chances to get back in the game.

The one I felt bad for was Kershaw. He's had a multiple year run matched in modern times only by Koufax, Pedro, Big Unit. If he didn't suddenly develop a gopher ball habit this year his ERA would have been 0.50 rather than 2.00.

But the "fake news" that this relief appearance was like Madbum's in 2014 was ludicrous. You have to have won game 5 for that one to happen.

Best pitcher of the generation (regular season) but in desperate relief of an exorcism. Four scoreless innings in relief in game 7 - meaningless.

Very sad -- a great hurler -- indeed, the last of a breed -- wanted to finish what he started, just like Messrs. Doubleday/Cartwright envisioned it --

Aaron Boone to the Yanks? He's better than Girardi? Really?

X2 --
& not only that but why are they doing it at all -- same thing w/us, Farrell fired after consecutive strong seasons, now it's Alex Cora & mayb he's the answer to whatever Sox brass is looking for -- fans aren't unhappy after twin 93-69 campaigns, didn't seem NY fans were unhappy w/Girardi altho I don't know -- they dispatched high-flying Indians in playoffs

Aaron Boone will never have to pick up the tab in in NYC, his 2003 HR against us in the playoffs assures him of that
....But, he knows it could become a snakepit if they don't win & he tries to manage amid media glare & "Bring Back Girardi" chants -- let's go Sox

And the Sox fired Francona a few years ago. What was that all about?

Regarding the stats thing. Remember when Bill James was a big deal in like the late 70s - early 80s I think?

I think he kind of kicked a lot of that off. Big Red Sux guy.

Yup. Followed by Moneyball. If Seinfeld was filing now George C. would get the job of manager - and not be in the front office.

The stadium's downward symbol is appropriate
-- it's exactly where this lawsuit by that A's outfielder is coming from -- the **** ter -- that's where this points, more-so than any symbol, Guaranteed Rate or not
-- apparently a great prospect, tough injury making a great effort, hope he heals up fully etc etc......but come on

......so he wins, & here comes a parade of lawsuits in it wake, & a brand-new type of injury angle for MLB to feed on
.......yes Mr. Comiskey you aren't missing much -- let's go Sox -- BoSox -- & your Go-Go ChiSox

I think a lot has to do on how bad the maintanence was. There is inherent risk; but if padding of concrete etc. is not adequately padded its no difference than any other workplace.

When Mantle's cleats caught in the sprinkler was the head not buried to standards? Did he lose a fortune in lost wages? I don't think you'd have this disdain if a cab drive had a seat belt that wasn't fixed by the owners.

Probably not -- quite a different kettle of fish you mentioned tho (taxi/seatbelt)
-- yes blaming the stadium for his injury makes me disdainful -- and thoroughly unsurprised

Stephen always sets the bar for this kind of stuff tho
now he's sayin he's gonna skip future All Star games -- what's up w/that Stephen?

"The right-hander said Sunday he is sure a change in routine for that event last season contributed to an arm injury that landed him on the disabled list"

But Stephen, you didn't even pitch in the game! What's up?
"I just know that little lapse, for whatever reason, it pushed me back a bit. It started making my arm hurt," Stephen said in ESPN article

I mean this, on top of an OF suing a team and its stadium for his injury
even-Stephen outdoes himself on this one -- shelved w/sore arm
reason, too much rest
...I liked it better when it was a game

Well, the odds to win The World Series are out:

New York Yankees 9/2
Los Angeles Dodgers 5/1
Cleveland Indians 7/1
Houston Astros 7/1
Chicago Cubs 8/1
Washington Nationals 10/1
Boston Red Sox 12/1
Los Angeles Angels 14/1
St. Louis Cardinals 16/1
San Francisco Giants 20/1
Arizona Diamondbacks25/1
Minnesota Twins 25/1
New York Mets 25/1
Toronto Blue Jays 25/1
Colorado Rockies 28/1
Milwaukee Brewers 33/1
Seattle Mariners 33/1
Texas Rangers 33/1
Tampa Bay Rays 40/1
Baltimore Orioles 50/1
Kansas City Royals 50/1
Pittsburgh Pirates 66/1
Miami Marlins 80/1
Philadelphia Phillies 80/1
Atlanta Braves 100/1
San Diego Padres 100/1
Chicago White Sox 125/1
Cincinnati Reds 125/1
Detroit Tigers 125/1
Oakland Athletics 125/1

I can't find the lines on the divisions and leagues. Those will probably be out within a few weeks. I like picking those. Of course they don't pay as much but it is fun to try to pick one of those.

I took Cleveland. Hey, they have to win it sometime, right?

And of course, my Tigers have the worst (best?) odds.

As I Giant fan I am shocked to see how highly they are rate. They were horrible last year and didn't make huge changes in the offseason.

But hey; if they make it to the playoffs they have the MADBUM horse to ride.

Bumgarner should be okay. I guess. Plus an even number year?

Just leave motorcycles away from them.

MADBUM looked sharp at the end of last year; but he could get injured roping a steer next year. He marches to his own drummer; but beneath the "aw shucks farm boy" there is an apparent anger at prematurely signing a contract. He violated it with last years injury - but there was no way in hell the giants were going there

It's negative a zillion degrees here in Chicago so I am counting down the days until pitchers and catchers report.

Giants are loading up. Getting Mccutchen was a great move. Acquiring Longoria was another great pickup. Wonder what they do with Sandoval. Can't be a DH obviously.

Giants moves (especially mccutheon cause one year left on contact) are smart. If they donít contend this year the team gets torn apart

I think pandas only value is to protect madbum from himself

No idea what they paid Sandoval to come back but they were smart to unload him on Boston before.

And this is an even number year so that should bode well if you are a Giants fan.

Panda was signed after Boston released him. Costs the Giants 500K/year. Worth the risks.

He sure picked the right time to peak/sign
