Hi all, I am not familiar with this area anymore, I use to go there back in the 70's for...well...nevermind....and the area was not all that great, does anybody know of a good place to hang before the gig? Anything similar to the Bear Bar or Blondies? I heard from some people this is a bad area while others say it is being redeveloped and is not that bad anymore. Any insight. Thanks in advance for any input. peace.

You can try Coogan's down the street in the West 160s and Broadway (I don't know the exact address but it's near the 168th train stop. It's pretty cool and will probably be packed with people from the show.

Also, I'm in that area several times a week and it's NOT that bad. Yes, there are some drug dealers hanging around selling weed and the area isn't the cleanest but it's not dangerous like people say (it seems like when you hit about 110th street, everyone considers it 'shady').

I personally despise Coogans (had some run-ins there) but it's certainly the biggest and busiest bar up there. Mix of Columbia students and local riff raff.

I'm real keen on going to one of the local restaurants up there pre-show. They are set up like diners with booths, counters and stools, etc., but serve beers. So... get belly full of spanish food and toss back a few Presidentes. Save the bar hang for back below 125th...

Just for the hell of it and wanting to know the area, i drove down on sat. No parking what so ever unless you use a garage. Take the train people. As far as it being seedy, no more seedy than where Yankee Stadium is . The nights of these shows will be packed with cops so i would not get all bent out of shape. Lets just enjoy it, it might not last to much longer

Thanks everyone for the input. I will get together with my friends, pass on your input, and decide from there. It's good to have SOME direction. The Patriot/Blue Ruin suggestion is appealing. I appreciate it. Peace. - A-man

If you want to try the Village there's a nice little place called The Galway Hooker on 7th Ave b/t 10th and Charles. They have a really good selection of beers and it's about a 3 minute walk to the 1-train at Christopher St, this train will take you directly to 168 & BW near the Palace. Obviously there's almost an endless list of other cards right in that same area. Pretty sure Galway has Happy Hour until 7pm most days...
