About five or six years ago I was in the break room at a job I had with a bunch of fellow workers, and it was around Halloween time. I brought the subject up of true tails that they may have had about strange and mystical or spiritual things that might have happened to them over the years, and encouraged them to tell the stories. After everybody figured out that nobody would laugh at or ridicule them the stories came out, not ghost stories or fables, but true stories and experiences, and there were some good ones. I am talking about real experiences here, and I have had a few myself over the years. Anybody else out there have any experiences like that? It has to be true or else it is just goofy. I will start.

When I was about 12 or 13 years old we had a ghost hang around at the house that made small but interesting appearances. It usually happened around CHristmas time. One night my sister and mother were wrapping gifts and could not find a box that would fit this certain gift perfectly. They had me look in closets and all over the house, and no box of the right size was found. After they more or less gave up and decided to make one from other boxes, a box comes tumbling out of the top of the closet in my Mom's room and lands at their feet, and it is the perfect size for the package.

Another time we were out of town and had neighbor come in the house to feed the animals. When he did he heard what sounded like a radio on in the house. He looked all over the house, in every room, but could find nothing on. He went outside and could not hear anything out there, it was only inside the house. After he fed the animals he sat in a chair in the living room to pet one of the cats and there was one of those accordion shaped CHristmas decorations that fold up and fold out as you hang it up and strecth it out. It is like a string of connected paper dolls only it is snowflakes or whatever, you know what I mean. The one that was right above him was pulled down almost to his head and let go so it would spring up to the ceiling right above him. There was nobody there but him, and it scared the heck out of him and he ran out and refused to go back into the house until we got home.

A friend of mine's Dad, Henry Ziegler of Harrison, Ohio, just died about a year ago from Emphyzema and it was a slow death. He died in his own house which was but a mile or two from my friend, and his son's, house here in Ohio. A few of the family were up there with him as he died at about 3:20am. At the very same time his daughter, who lived north of LA in California, woke up to him standing in her bedroom telling her he loved her and he wanted to say goodbye to her two kids. She called immediately without knowing he had died, yet she did know, and the family was amazed that she knew when to call. She called them before they called her. His grandson was at home at my friend's house asleep a couple of miles away, and it is a farm house, and he was woke up by the chickens going crazy in the coop behind the house. They only get loud and wound up in the middle of the night if something is moving around the coop. It was loud enough to wake him up to go and see what it was as it could have been red foxes or whatever. He looked at his clock and after talking with him later he realized that it was at the exact same time as his grandpa died. His grandpa was born and raised on that farm and it was as if he wanted to walk through it one more time before moving on.

I have had some strange experiences as well, and some of them sober, but it seems to have to do with Guardian angels of some kind. Lately it has been a matter of an energy following me around. For the last few years or so, when it is after dark and I am walking around or driving around, street lights and such go out as I pass under them, and it happens a lot, and I mean "a lot". I can drive anywhere, and as I pass a street light it will go out, whether on a county road or an interstate. I am almost used to it.

It gets even better. This was confirmed by two other people. My girlfriend at the time and myself were driving home from my Dad's house in Virginia about 4 years ago and my sister and her kids were in her car following behind us, so it was a two-car convoy coming down I-71 from the north. As my sister drove behind me she saw a swirling light come from out of the woods to the right and wrap around my car as we drove down the highway. It freaked her out. A few miles down the road we stopped at a road side rest and she nervously brought up what she saw. It was the old, "Your going to think I am crazy, but...." deal. When she did tell us about it my girlfriend gasped, like a bell went off. She said that she also saw the light coming from the woods to the right coming our way but was afraid to say anything about it. When my sister broke the ice she admitted it, and it freaked both of them out. I never saw it as I was driving. FReaky stuff.

What about you? Don't be shy, just tell it as it happened. You don't even need to explain it. It could have happened to you or somebody you know. Just don't make it up.

The true stories are always the best.

Derek H

Can't explain the walking thing, but the same thing happens to me when driving. The reason could be your headlight alignment. Some streetlights are on sensors and can be tricked into thinking it is daytime if your headlight shines into the sensor.

My mom has those experiences from relatives, past and present. Once in a while, she smells a strong perfume smell, the one her aunt used to wear all the time. Just out of the blue. And this happens rarely, but she also hears her aunt or father (both passed on) say her name.
SHe also woke up and called relatives who were with loved ones who had just died in the middle of the night, to find out they had just died before she called. She just had an urge to call, totally out of the blue.

My grandfather (her father) got a weird phone call about a year after his sister had died...I was there for this one. He answered the ringing phone, said hello and then turned about white as a sheet....he kept saying "who is this" and then finally hung up. He said he could swear it was his sister saying his name, but nothing else. Just repeating his name...weird!

When my little brother was a small kid, around 4 to 8 yrs old, he would freak us all out! He knew what you were thinking sometimes, would name stuffed animals after people he didn't know yet, but later would meet or hear their names mentioned. He had an imaginary friend that used to really get on my nerves too. LOL In the car he'd keep pushing on me to move over so his friend could have more room, and he'd insist on us acting like this "person" was really there all the time. It was funny, but to him, this guy was real.
My best friend's son does that too. He insists he has these brothers that no one can see, and she says they were in the car once riding along, and he pointed to this old warehouse and started to tell her that's where he and his brothers used to practice in their band. Well, turns out, there were some teenagers who used to practice there, but one had died in a car wreck....the weird part, one of the imaginary "brothers" had the kids name. This guy was around was long gone before her 5 year old son was even born. Weird.

My mom was a freshman at Ball State University back in the early '70's. She was never much into the party scene, so most of her weekend time was spent in the dorms hanging out with the girls.

Just for fun they decided to hold a seance one night, so they turned out the lights and lit the candles. Only thing left to decide was who to contact. One of the girls had lost her grandmother the summer before, so they went that route. The girls sat on the floor in the candle-lit room, formed the shape of a cross on the floor and began asking for contact. My mom was seated at what amounted to the top of the cross.

Next thing my mom recalls is an indescribable feeling of helplessness and terror. To use some of her own words, she wanted desperately to move but couldn't because she was under a tremendous weight that enveloped her whole body. She was trying to cry out, but was not, in her mind, able to speak or even see.

All she could think to do was pray, so she did. Longer and harder than she had ever prayed before, asking only that God spare her life. It seemed instantaneous to her. She regained feeling in time to notice a warm hand on her shoulder. As she regained awareness of her surroundings, she turned to catch a glimpse of a brilliant light (an angel in her words) behind her.

The girls in the room were shocked and terrified, most of them sobbing hysterically. None had noticed the terrible weight in the room or seen the brilliant light that had restored my mother. They had witnessed, for nearly two full hours, a full fledged and personal conversation between my mother and the girl who's grandmother they had hoped to channel.

My mother reminisced about events from the girls childhood, called her by petnames known only to close family members. The topics of discussion were certainly things completely unknown to my mom, even to this day, as she recalls nothing that happened in that room aside from that terrible feeling and the warm hand on her shoulder. As far as she could recall, the seance had begun only moments before but nearly two hours had passed.

Gives me the chills every time I think about it, and I firmly believe that this is an entirely true story.

You know, this happens to me CONSTANTLY and no one believes me. I've been trying to figure it out. I feel like I have some weird aura that makes lights go out. I guess I'm just that bright, all by myself hee hee. But seriously, I'm glad someone else experiences that! This has been happening to me for about 10 years... My wife has finally been there when it happens, so I know I'm not crazy!

I appreciate Sue's point about the sensors on the lights, but it happens at a stop sign with a light off to the side, across a highway, alll angles. And, I add that to the other story with my sister riding behind me.

That was Ronnie Dobbs....I actually went on this little ghost tour in St Augustine with Nikki when we were in Florida. The tour girl said that certain street lamps would go off occasionally when she walked by each night. It happened when we were there.
Maybe there is something about spirits and lamps? That's weird. I've never noticed before with other people. I'll have to start watching street lights.

I don't see why it would be so weird to have spirits of people present really. Maybe they just miss their loved ones and want to be close.

I always heard the human body grounded or caused static electricity that shut the street light down.

It always sounded lame to me but I've certainly seen street lights turn off when walking by.

I've got a funny anecdote, and a serious thing....

Back in H.S. we used to take road trips in my van up to Saratoga Performing Arts Center for days on end and see several concerts at a shot. We were always well-stocked with green, and I don't just mean dollars! Edgar Allen Poe's mansion, Yaddo, is there, and one day, before a Clapton concert, I think, we "picnicked" on the grounds, open to the public. We decided we would park the van there and camp out after the show. So after the show we go there (well, after satisfying the munchies) but it's closed of course. So we park outside the grounds and all flop down on the bean-bags to round off the eve with ghost stories and kill the keg etc. It's a dark moonless night, there are no street lamps right there and it's kind of a blustery late August eve. 'Course, there's 5 of us and the windows are all fogged up and we're stoned and scaring the crap out of each other. The wind is kinda hard and there's all kinds of creaks and noises. I guess (hope) a branch fell off a tree and landed on the roof with a loud bang, at which point we all started screaming and I ran over faces to the driver's seat and roared out of there without wiping the fog from the windshield or turning on the lights 'til we've gone a ways. The guys were still screaming all the way to the McDonalds parking lot, where we calmed down, had a laugh, and fell asleep 'til Ossifer Bob woke us up and said to get the hell outta there.
Not a real ghost story, but maybe funny.

More real for me was when my ex-wife and I lived in a house here that was pretty old, built like 1890. We rented there for about a year, during which I felt "visited" quite often.
You know that twilight zone before you fall asleep? I used to get, like, paralyzed, while this horrible feeling would wash over me, like some evil thing wants to get me. I could never make any signal to my ex-wife to slap me or "wake me up", neither with movements nor with my voice. After a time, I would not only feel the unease, but start to perceive something more tangible entering the room via the archway from the living room. Soon the "figure" was approaching the bed. Featureless, shapeless, just a dark cloud-like thing that would successively come closer to me in my paralyzed state. Once in a while, after I'd told her about this, on nights she'd be reading late and I happened to be turned toward her, she could see me staring at her and then she'd shake me, which would "break the spell". But that was more at the end of our time in that house. These "visitations" made no distinction between the darkened room or the lights being on, and I started to think I was having some kind of flashback problem, 'tho logically I didn't really think I could, not having dallied with heavier stuff. And I hadn't lit up for several years prior to that, so I wasn't wasted.
We subsequently moved out and the "visitations" ended at that. "It" never really made it beyond the footboard of the bed, and I've always thought I'd've "died in my sleep" if it had.
Later, not having actually investigated, we heard by happenstance that the original owners had a history of insanity and suicide in their family. But we never found out any details, and noone seems to know/care.

I think I would have been scared to fall asleep after a couple of those incidents. How Creepy!
I can't say I"ve ever experienced anything myself involving the paranormal. It's intriguing though to hear about it. I'm sure I"d be terrified if I did have an encounter of some kind.
It's those alien abductions that I want no part of, ever! ....Probes, experiments, etc. NO WAY!

OK, here is another couple of other ones. One thing that got the attention of our family was the fact that my GRandfather had a wart on his right hand that disappeared. But, here is the rest of the story, about a week later, and I am not making this up, a wart formed on my GRandmother's hand on the same place. Same hand as his, same place on the hand.

Also, I am originally from West Virginia and about five years ago I was visiting my grandpa's home place in the mountains outside of Mullens, WV and we got to talking about death crowns. A death crown, and you country folk probably know what they are, is where someone that has died or has been deathly ill for a long time laid their head on their pillow, which was filled with feathers back in the day. After someone dies on the bed with their head on that pillow they cut open the pillow and see if there is a death crown formed in the feathers. It is like a nest, with the feathers all aligned in a circle and intertwined and locked together in a swirl. Some would say that it is just from laying your head in one spot for a long time, but they are in a perfect circle, and as I said before, the feathers are interlocked and woven together. After I had this discussion with my aunts, about a year later they were going through my grandparents house and they found my grandmothers death crown which was in a marked envelope. I still have it to this day. I am not sure what to think about it. Anybody else have one or see one ever??

Many years ago I used to have a OUIJA board hanging on my wall. On two seperate occasions I awoke to see the face of a woman in the spot where the board was hanging.
The woman had long beautiful blonde hair that seemed to be blowing in a light breeze. The room was pitch dark and her face and hair seemed illuminated. I was never sure if I was just seeing this as I was coming out of a deep sleep or what but it felt like a very real experience.
Still gives me goosebumps!!

This was in reference to your "wet bed" post...not the one preceeding this one. That would be in real poor taste, of course! I swear, it wasn't up before I posted this reply.

another one i can relate to - when i was a kid a doll i just bought at the salvation army started dancing in mid-air alongside of some other doll i didnt even own (i told this story somewhere around here a while back)....anyway, i was trying to scream for my mother but couldnt make a noise at all....what an awful feeling! truly terrible.

my mother somehow heard something and came rushing in and the doll fell at about 2 foot from my bed. my mom never let me see that doll again. i'm enternally grateful for that.

I had quite an experience today with someone while chatting on the phone. I have crystals all around the desk here and I was holding one while chatting and it just kept getting warmer and warmer and the energy just kept building until it was almost hot and it is still warm now, over two hours later.
I am going to cleanse it though because I almost think I was pulling the negative energy from this person.

This only happened once, but it scared me **** less. I woke up in the middle of the night because I thought I heard my bedroom door open. When I opened my eyes I saw a dark shape hovering over my bed. I tried to scream, but couldn't. Then I tried to get up to get out of the room, but was frozen. This lasted what felt like an eternity but was probably only a minute or 2. I was scared out of my wits and thought I was going to die. Then, slowly, the feeling subsided, the dark shape dissipated, and I regained control over myself. I always thought that there was something more to it, like a spirit trying to possess me, and another intervening on my behalf and saving me, because when I could move and talk again, I just felt unbelievably peaceful and calm. I didn't even get up. I just fell right back to sleep and it's never happened again.
