Some ABB shows seem to be Warren shows while others seem to be Trucks shows. Which one do you prefer?

I prefer Derek "nights" with the ABB.

But, I prefer Gov't Mule over DTB.

I love both guys, but overall, I prefer Derek's playing to Warren's. Which kind of bums me out that I can't get totally into the DTB. I own the albums, and I spin them now and then, but they're too laid back or something. There's no edge, no urgency, no drive to the tunes (to me at least). I mean not every album can be Layla, but I like a little intensity to come through (not that the band isn't trying hard or being "instense" in the studio . . . I'm beginning to think this isn't even making any sense).

Thankfully we don't have to choose. Any band would be lucky to have either one.

I wasn't asking you to choose one or the other? Of course you will get both. It just seems that some nights are more Warren and some are more Derek. I guess it depends on the mood I am in. If I want a little more hard hitting, I go for Warren. Either night is grate and I wouldn't have it any other way than to have both of them in the band. It wouldn't be the same without both of them in the band.

Derek.
And yes, I do understand what was meant - Derek has a jazzy touch, Warren has the rocker's edge. The vibe of Derek's "Soul Serenade" album often makes me think of the restraint of "Kind of Blue." It took me a while to get it; I realized that I could not go into listening to some of those DTB albums expecting a gritty sound. Once I re-adjusted my expectations, no problems.

I haven't heard enough of each with the ABB. For their own bands Its Warren but thats personal. I still love Derek, when i saw them I thought it was both of them that night. Dereks Dreams solo was awesome, and Warren drove that whole show. Derek is more laid back and Warren is more heavy.

LMAO

I can fully appreciate that. I feel the same if the show is within a ten hour drive. Personally I think every show has elements of both. I think the true key to both men's greatness is their ability to read other musicians and can tell when they should lay back and let the other go off on a journey.

I think it's a wonderful thing that their synergy and technique will be on display at Crossroads this year. Depending on what they play, the later DVD may cause a lot of jaws to drop for those uninitiated to ABB.

It's Warren for me. His overall talent does it for me. When he's feeling it, there's no one else I'd rather listen to play anything.

Warren hands down, his pure rock approach is awesome.. dereks approach to guitar is for me to limited to slide and new age sound (not that that is bad) i am old school rocker and i love Warrens work ethic...
