I personally prefer the Rolling Stones.

BEATLES!!!

Actually, I've always felt that a comparison of the two is strange, because I don't really see many similarities, other than the time period that they started their careers in. Other than that they're very different.

Stones

This just blows people away when I tell them, but........

...i've never liked the Beatles. Barely ONE song. I know they were a great band and I know I sure am outnumbered, but it's just the way it is

The media enjoyed comparing the two and even reporting them as rivals but in reality they respected each other immensily and once you understand where both bands are coming from, you will also.

Beatles hands down. More original, far more creative. Two great singers, one decent, one ok. Three good writers. Neither band great instrumentalists, basically just good enough to put their songs across. No good singer in the Stones. Jagger a "vocalist" with a silly phony Southern accent. No soul; all brag and sass. He and Richards have written some good songs. Richards a solid rhythm guitar player. Stones had some sort of mystique I never understood, but are basically marketing geniuses, selling bad imitations of American r&b to white kids who liked the naughty thing. A couple of middle class English college kids as authentic bluesmen? C'mon. Beatles imitated and absorbed a huge swath of American popular music and made their own versions. They wrote real melodies and had more harmonic colors in their palate than anyone in their day. They were more blatantly pop than the Stones, but that's more image than reality.

Gotta go with the Beatles. So much range, and SO MANY top-notch songs. They're not my favorite band, but in terms of quality material, not a lot of groups can compete. It's closer than it used to be, though- I was never a Stones fan, but I really dig Sticky Fingers and some of their best songs are really great.

Oh, I forgot, and if the Stones ever did a movie, it wouldn't be nearly as cool as Yellow Submarine.

Beatles

Get a buzz and listen to The White album. Then Abbey Road.
Good Stuff. All of it is good. I think those two are the best.
Sgt P real good as well.
Early stuff Rubber Soul, Revolver, Yesterday and Today.

Stones are great as well. Sticky Fingers my fav.

Both are great. Starting listening to both in 64.

The Stones untill the early 70's at least. After Mick Taylor was out of the picture, I kinda/sorts lost interest. I can't see myself listening to any of thier new stuff. I can't see myself listening to early Beatles either. Yes they may be better songwriters and all that... As far as performing goes (in my humble opinion) The Stones outshine the Beatles (Big Time) And no I wouldn't pay to see the stones today unless it was at a small club or bar.

Oh yeah... the stones have kewler t-shirts

The Beatles by a country mile.

The Stones would have been better with a decent lead singer. They produced some great albums beteeen 1968 - 72 , but since then it has mostly been crap. IMHO

Damn these threads that make me choose between two of my favorites.

I like The Rolling Stones better - at least this week, but play Beatles albums more often.
