I have really been digging Matts drum playing of late and I am more impressed every time I get to see him. I just don't think he gets enough credit for what he brings to the Mule. Just wanted to give a shout out for Matt and to give him some props for his excellent style and playing abilities. Matt ROCKS!

Hell yeah. Matt Abts is a badass. I was lucky enough to see the Mule once with Oteil on bass, and, AND, Chuck Leavell on keys. At the end of the show, a roadie passed out about 10 pairs worth of drum sticks that Matt destroyed during that one show. So I have a beat all to hell signed drumstick from the one and only, "Matt Abts on the drums!"

I always liked Capt.Al's intro - " Matt Abts ,playing the HELL outta the drums"
Thorazine Shuffle live once was enough to convince me of how good he is.

x2

Love Matt's playing... Stanton's playing actually got me back behind the kit after a lengthy sabbatical from it... caught Galactic's show at the Paradise in Boston last night and the roof was on fire!

I've seen Moore once with Galactic , but I've also seen him twice with Robert Walter on keys and Shane Theriot / Will Bernard on guitar (Theriot's a lot better) . Those guys really play mind blowing shows .... not to mention the tickets are $15.00 .

I am in 100% agreement here. I really believe that if Matt were a bit younger he may have landed in some all-time historic band such as The Jimi Hendrix Experience or Cream or Led Zeppelin or something of the sort (maybe the Allmans) and may have gone down as one of the very greatest drummers of all-time. Just too much history behind him and too much competition now for him the get the recognition which he deserves. Yonrico Scott of DTB is right there with him.

Each time I see them play I'm reminded just how awesomely incredible he is. I'm not sure how often the drummer is a primary reason people go to shows and I love Warren quite a bit, but Matt's play is a HUGE draw for me.

Matt is hugely talented though I would like to see him mix up some new takes on things like Thorazine, Ram, Mule. His solo's are where he always mixes it up and brings something new to the table.

Another absolutely favorite drummer if you get a chance to see him is Rodney Holmes (Kimock's old band). This guy is like an octopus. You'll have no idea how he can move 4 extremities so independently. Absurdly amazing!

Matt needs to do some side projects with some big names. Can you imagine how hard he'd drive Jimmy Page? Or put him in Derek's new band?!
