Hello there Sweet Family,
I figure that there may be some smokers out there. I have come to realize why I have been so sick this past month. Nearly every brand of cigarette, nationwide, is now "Fire Safety Compliant". There's an FSC on the barcode. Laws have been passed, and the consumers were never made aware, that they have added ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (carpet glue) to the paper to make it go out if left unattended. People all over the country are getting sick, and they have no idea why.

I never post things like this, but, i'm just trying to tell everybody I can to google "FSC cigarette" and educate yourself, and I love me some Allman Brothers Fans!

Our smokes have been hijacked by a highly toxic chemical that is making even long term smokers instantly sick when they smoke these things. I have my patch on because I have no other choice.

leftyblues. Yes, we know this. Everybody knows this. And now, we know that even more. That comment helps nobody, nobody at all. There's a HUGE difference when people, who have been smoking for years, get instantly sick. They've been smoking all the other, very well known, toxic chemicals, and don't get violently ill. No headaches, dizziness, nausea, aches, pains...

I'm just trying to help get the word out on something we all should have been told about.

I really didn't think i'd get a comment like that here. Guess I was wrong. Welp, back to Lurking.....

Sorry, but I'm going to jump on the negative bandwagon. My mom enjoyed her poison for 40+ years and is now living out her "golden" years attached to Oxygen 24/7. No real quality of life whatsoever. Seriously folks, if you love your life or family, stop smoking NOW.

I am glad I have been quit for 1 year & two months. Feel better, smell better, and glad I don't have to experience this change. I know the feeling smokers go through. Mostly all of them want to quit. Its a tough endeavor for anybody. Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise and help more people quit.

All of January, my mom and I coughed more than we ever have. I never cough like this. Whenever I smoke one of these things, I feel like i'm going to puke, and I get really dizzy. The Harvard study shows something like 13.9% more napthalene, and 11.2% more carbon monoxide in the smoke from FSC's compared to non-FSC. These cigs require people to take more frequent drags, thus increasing the amounts of all the bad stuff in your lungs.

Napthalene is in mothballs, and too much exposure to those lead to the same headaches, nausea, etc.. that people are reporting from these FSC cigs.

CO is just plain bad, so more is even worse.

I'm convinced that smokers all over the country are now lab rats, being forced against their will to test the affects of inhaling EVA polymers, something these polymers were never designed for. Against their will because the only way to get around this is to roll your own.

Ugh, I'm enjoying my patch, and coughless days.

I would never get into the part about being able to quit once you start smoking as I have never dealt with that and have luckily never been a smoiker. I try to base any bias or negativity towards a group on what I see and experience for myself. I will never, ever, ever feel sorry for folks who throw lit items out of their car windows (and I defy even one smoker to say they do not do this) or walk into a store that I am in and the place instantly smells of a disgusting ash tray. Sorry, but I wish cigarettes would disappear from the planet and someone would come up with a way to help peoiple really quit for good. I know the person who started this wasn't looking for this, but too bad, anyone is free to chime in on any thread. I HATE, HATE cigarette smokers for the reasons above. Thankfully where I live smoking indoors was banned a few years ago. Great, but I still walk by these outdoor disposal units placed outside many places and it smells just as disgusting as the smoker he/herself does. Anyone wants to let me have it, go ahead. I would defend every word I said above.

I'm on the negative bandwagon also. Cigs took away my father-in-laws voice box over 20 years ago. Thankfully the laryngectomy (sp?) removed his cancer and he has been cancer free ever since. He will be 85 in August. But did that stop his son from smoking? No. Not until 5 years ago when he spent 40 days in the hospital. They literally had to cut his chest open and open his lungs to scrape the crap out from the cigarettes. They removed as much as the cancer they could. That made him quit. But it was too late. He spent the next 5 years on treatments and more surgeries. He died this past May. He was 50. Even more unbelievable is that the whole time he went through this his wife still smoked. Still does. This cigarette addiction thing I'll never understand. I can't stand to be around it. I feel sorry for those who are hooked and don't have what it takes to kick the habit.

It's on my list of things to do this year, hopefully, I will make it as I am tired of the smell, the mess, the cost, the effects on my body, and the fact that no non-smoking women want anything to do with a smoker. As less and less of the population smokes, your options become more and more limited.

Gregg said that of all the demons he faced, smoking was the toughest.

I've been quit for almost ten years. But, I won't give anyone grief over being a smoker because I personally know how hard it is to give them up. Two packs a day of Regular Camels, some days three packs. So, quit if you can, by whatever means you can. Or roll your own. I know a few long time smokers who have gone that route. Jack Pearson now rolls his own after being a Camel Filter smoker for many years. He did it because they changed the blend and they didn't taste the same and the price went to $3 a pack.
He says it's a third of the cost, but you have to spend some time rolling. But he also said that he smokes less because it's more work.

Yikes.....looked back at my earlier comments and they were a little harsh. i do feel for those who know it is bad and want to but can't quit. I am not a stranger to addiction. I was just looking at the side that affects me as a non-smoker. Last comment - PLEASE PLEASE smokers figure a way to stop throwing cigarettes out the window when driving. My theory is if you let enough of them pile up in your car's ashtray, maybe the stench will be a motivator to quit.

And BOTH of my parents died much too early because they loved their poisonous "cancer/emphazema" sticks so much.

I am so glad I ditched the "poison sticks" a long time ago.

I wish everyone would come to their senses.

been 3 years for me now since I had one. My Dad's on oxygen 24/7 because of them. Whatever they're putting in them to make people instantly sick---keep it up- add more.

"the only way to get around this is to roll your own."

Then that is what you should do.

While I agree with the others on this thread that you should stop smoking, I also realize that is easier said than done. Nicotine is highly addictive.

However, I have always felt that if you ARE going to smoke tobacco, roll your own. American Spirit makes good quality rolling tobacco without a bunch of chemicals in it. To this non-smoker, they even smell better than mass produced cigarettes.

Even before this whole FSC thing, cigarettes included all kinds of unsavory additives. If you roll you own, you will get a higher quality smoke, and do less damage to your body.

Just thought I'd offer a suggestion a little less drastic than "Quit now."

as i said, I wasn't being negative...

lost my mom to Pancreatic cancer..she had been a heave smoker for years and even though she quit, that damage was done...it went right to her lungs..

Tuesday marks three years...

when you love someone, you want them to be around..

hey, i can only imagine how hard it is to quit..

Been enjoying the success stories, and feeling the pain and heartache from the stories of loss.

Quitting is easy. Hell, I've done it about 20 times! Hit the 3 month barrier and say to myself "I want to enjoy a smoke because I want to, not because I need to." I bum one. Then buy a pack the next day. Then it starts all over again.

Rollies are cheaper, but, I have trouble with them. I would buy the Am Spirit Organic tobacco. One drag makes you feel like you're about to pass out from the 5 second high. But then I quickly rise back up to 10 rollies a day. By the end of the second pouch, i'm coughing up brown stuff in the morning. Then I go back to Winstons because, like Spirits, they're "additive free". But now even Winstons and Spirits, even though they still advertise as additive free, now have the new EVA stuff in the paper, not the tobacco, so they can get away with it.

I think the "enough is enough" time has come.

What i don't understand is because some dumb ass chooses to lay in his bed, stinking up his house, fallin asleep & burning the joint to the ground. Is deemed a justifiable reason to put a chemical in cigarettes that not only makes people cough more, have a sore throat, stomach pain,& other ailments.BUT makes them draw on the cigaretee 10 times more to keep it going..This has got to be one of the most dumb ass moves i've seen in a long time.I wouldn't be suprised to see some law suits arising out of it.Total BS.
