Slight digression (so early in the thread!) - if you want to buy Buddy's original Magnatone amplifier:

http://www.gruhn.com/

Check the left column - see the pic of the Magnatone. If only I had the bucks. I guess that'll be the day!

In an interview Don McClean responded to questions of "what does American Pie mean?" by saying "it means I don't have to work ever again."

Now if I can just write a song like that so I don't ever have to work again either.

I have always been a big fan of Buddy Holly. I think his music is just as fresh and as timeless as the day he recorded it, which I really can't say the same for some of the other music from the late 50s. RAVE ON, BUDDY!!!

All 3 that died inspired alot of people. Buddy Holly inspired The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc. The Big Bopper inspired alot of people as well. Ritchie Valens inspired Santana, Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys, etc. When I Saw Paul McCartney at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas last August, he did It's So Easy at the show, it was awesome.

This explains all those Big Bopper tribute and cover bands.

Seriously, not trying to be a tool or anything ... I just can't think of any Big Bopper inspired acts.

I thought Robert Plant was going for kind of a Big Bopper thing back in '84 when he did that Honey Drippers EP with Sea of Love and I Got A Woman...

I don't know who or if JP Richardson (The Big Bopper) influenced, but Chantilly Lace
still plays in my head often!

I visited the plane crash site last August. There is a makeshift memorial with glasses, poems, guitar picks, etc. Very inspiring. I highly recommend visiting it if you are in Northern Iowa.
