Hello everyone!
Im sure alot of us Allman Brothers fans are musicians so i was wonder if any of you Peacheads out there who are in bands cover any Allman Brothers Tunes. If so what insturment do you play and what are your favorite parts. I can never get a band of my own going (im in high school, dedication does not exist to many people), but my father playes in a very good blue rock band around town (wichita,Ks), so every once in a while i get to sit in with them and jam on "Whipping Post" which is always a blast. Me and my father playing those harmony lines is always something special, to make things better i get to take both solos for as long as I want. A few times the local ledgend Pat Mcgympsy has sat in and the house just always goes crazy. Life just doesnt get much better than that!

For a long time, my band did a tune called "Peach Medley", which was an instrumental that covered all the ABB instrumentals... We started off with swells, ala "Les Brers" and "High Falls", then went into a full blown "Les Brers", only to come out of it with the "...Liz Reed" melody. We eventually teased every ABB instrumental in some way. It usually took us 40 minutes, but it was worlds of fun!

When I was in H.S. 78-82 we had a southern rock band called Southbound. We played Skynyrd, Outlaws, Hatchet, others, and of ABB we played Whippin' Post, Midnight Rider, half ABB Dreams, half Hatchets with a little drum solo to do the time change (by yours truly), Trouble No More, One Way Out, Blue Sky, a few others I don't remember offhand, but those were the standouts.
We "won" 2nd prize at a battle of the bands with a setlist of Blackfoot's Fly Away, MTB's Take the Highway, a full Hatchet Dreams, MTB's It Takes Time, Blackfoot's Highway Song, and Whippin' Post, which we did very well, thank you (see why in my post in the Music Conscious thread)! Our lead gtrist had early exposure, too, so he kicked ass at 15 already. Still listen to the tape of that gig when I'm feeling nostalgic.

Always happy to blow my own horn

That does sound like a a pretty cool medley. I've thought about doing something like that, but I'm too lazy! I have learned "High Falls" and never played it with anyone. I've teased "Les Brers" and played parts of "Jessica", other than that "Liz Reed" is the only ABB instrumental I've played with a band.

Let's see, I've played "Melissa", "Midnight Rider", "No One to Run With", "Back Where it All Begins", "Whipping Post", "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed", "I'm Not Crying" and a bunch of others that I can't think of. All on guitar, and some vocals. I've played bass on "Liz Reed" too, filling in with a band once.

If you're a musician who likes to jam, almost all ABB songs are fun to play, in my opinion. Even playing the short songs like "Midnight Rider" get fun with all of the fills you can put in there....

I'm not in much if a band, but when I jam with my friends, we play Jessica, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, a Blue Sky jam, and a Seven Turns jam. I don't mean to brag but I'm 14 and I've only been playing guitar for about 5 months. When we play Jessica I can't play the rythm parts, so I just play lead. It comes out kind of sounding like the original. Our longest jam was the "Seven Turns" jam. That went for about an hour one time.
