Last week I went to LA to rehearse with a new band line up for my 2010 World Tour.
I am thrilled to introduce the mighty Narada Michael Walden on drums.
The astonishing Rhonda Smith on bass and with Jason Rebello on keyboards the sound is electrifying.

2010 looks set to be a good year and I canít wait to get on the road.

Although the jetlag sucks!

I wonder what Tal Wilkenfeld, his last bass player, is doing these days? She is awesome.

Obviously Jeff can pull the cuties for his bass slot.

Well the link to the album info. listed Tal as contributing to the CD recorded in 2009 in London. It's good her playing will be on the CD at least.....I Love Tal.

Michael Walden played drums with Jeff on the Wired release. He has played on tons on records and replaced Cobbham in Mahavishnu. Loved Vinny C but this guy can play too.
I am looking forward to the release. Vinny C and Tal played on it.

Micheal did not directly replace Cobham in Mahavishu, they broke up and later John McLaughlin assembled
an entirely new band for Mahavishnu Mach II. There is a DVD of this lineup that is very good.
Live from Montreux, is the name if memory serves.

He also played on Robert Fripp's solo record.

He is a great drummer, no offense to Vinny who I dig the most.

Hope to see Jeff soon.

Seeing them in a few weeks. Will be interesting seeing Beck a few months apart with totally different bands. Set by Beck, one by Clapton and then one together. The jams should be unreal.

Absolutely agreed. She's a great player, but she's no Oteil, or Todd Smallie for that matter. Not even close.

Having seen her with the Allmans, Jeff Beck, and Wane Krantz, I have to respectfully disagree. It's no swipe at Oteil, but Tal brings some amazing chops to the stage. Add Chick Corea to the list of who she has played for and those are some incredible references.

Surely I'm not. Just because Smallie doesn't get a lot of "solo" time in dTb nowadays, doesn't mean he can't throw down with the best. Back in the "free-form hippie jazz" days of dTb, he had a bit more room to shine. And if you think Tal is a better bass player than Oteil, you are one crazy mofo. Music is certainly not a competition, but just skill/jam-wise, Tal doesn't measure up with OB. She's a GREAT player. To say that she's no Oteil is not an insult. Not many are in his neighborhood. Is she more pleasant to look at?? In my opinion, YES .
