I just received the new Relix mag. in the mail, on the back page is an ad for the Mtn. Jam. It lists 7 bands as an initial line up.
Gov't Mule (2 nights)
Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band
The Avett Brothers
Toots & The Maytalls
Dave Mason
Lettuce
Alo
It says 40 bands on 4 stages.

I hope this is incorrect or they are holding out for one more large act. This doesnt come close to Wannee if this is true...
Booked tickets for New Orleans Jazz Fest week 1 instead of Wannee thinking mnt jam would be somewhat similar... already having so many regrets on so many levels. ____________________ ~The sun will shine in my backdoor someday~ |

Are they gonna announce a headline for Sunday??? Sunday's lineup is gonna have to rival last years or I'm only gonna do Friday and Saturday for Mule this year. Last year's Saturday lineup was brutal. Why does Wanee get such killer acts while MJ get much smaller unknown bands. I don't mind a few of them but I also want some of the heavy hitters like Wanee get. ____________________ Pete

Couldnt agree more... Wanee's line up is insane. At this point in my life i would probably take two nights of mule before two nights of ABB. However, having widespread open up for ABB two nights in a row on top of Mule, DT, Black Keys, Hot tuna Bob Weir etc. etc. and all this for the same price as mountain jam? It makes no sense.
I know this is the "initial" line up but that is really what mnt jam needs to sell tickets, you need to throw out a heavy hitter. DTB played sunday afternoon last year. Now you have his new unheard band 2nd on the initial line up list followed by a five "meh's."
Unless Mnt throws in some heavy hitters I am sitting this one out. For now this show is not worth the cost of admission. ____________________ ~The sun will shine in my backdoor someday~ |

If you think Lettuce is a "meh", you have never heard them, or you don't like funk.
They're one of the best live bands going right now. |

It's worth it for Mule alone. That said I would like to see Widespread Panic. I can think of no reason they should not close unless they are considered too big for the size of the festival. ____________________

Panic may close but they are not a huge draw at all in the Norhteast. They barely filled the Pavilion 2-3 years ago at Bethel Woods and NO ONE was on the lawn. Last year they played a double bill with the ABB and together only drew 4K. They also had trouble filling the Palace in Albany. I'd love to see them though; much preferred to another Dead type Sunday. |

Initial line up was accurate... However more added than what was mentioned. I have a little more interest then I did yesterday, but still feel they need to add one more blockbuster to the mix. Love Dark Star Orchestra, and Les Claypool will be cool. Unfortunately Matisyahu is Garbage.

Very true. Lettuce may not be well known in the ABB scene, but they are as good as it gets. I am sure they will make a lot of new fans at Mountain Jam, and look out for my article about guitarist Eric Krasno in the next issue of Hittin' The Note.
I also feel that some people might not be giving Toots and the Maytals and Dave Mason as much credit as they deserve. You are talking about two genuine living legends there. |

Will definitely give Lettuce a listen. As for Toots, saw him 4 years ago at a Reggae fest. One of the most boring performers i have ever seen in my life. That was a huge disappointment for me considering "harder they come" is one of my all time favorite albums and he contributed a lot to it.
As for Dave Mason. Saw him play with the Brothers a couple of years ago and did not like him. But to each his own.
Like I mentioned I think adding Dark Star and Les Claypool was huge and I will probably still go, however if anybody thinks this compares to Wannee in the least they are out of their minds. IMO

They sold out three nights in a row at Radio City a couple of years ago, so if they didn't sell Bethel or the Palace, you may have to give the promoter or the economy some of the blame.
The ABB Panic shows sold pretty well in the other shed venues. For my taste the combo was much better than the ABB-Ratdog.
I'm gonna spend the money to fly to Wanee rather than drive to Mountain Jam. Dave Mason and Toots may be legends, but so are Johnny Winter, Dr. John, Stephen Stills, Hot Tuna, and Chuck Leavell.
While Lettuce may be funky, at Wanee we are talking George Clinton, The Funky Meters, The Wailers, Ivan Neville’s and the Lee Boys. That's FUNKY!

i would love to hear a cd of the Wanee Funk lineup rather than Lettuce--it's comparing the minor leaguers to the majors--after all,George Clinton,The Wailers,Ivan Neville,The Lee Boys, & The Funky Meters...WOW That's big time--personally Lettuce does little for me,but if you dig it,enjoy it!
Toots is good, although having seen most of the NYE Beacon Mule shows, the least interesting night was with Toots. Dave Mason is good & he's nice to see...but till the whole list comes out it's hard to conclude if it'll be worth listening live...or just sit back & listen to lots of Wanee music |

They are very popular in New York. They routinely sell out three shows at Radio City. And they have the kind of national following that might show up for a 2 set headline at a late spring festival. I doubt spreadheads would travel in just to see a single set double bill with the ABB. ____________________

I am not at all excited with the MJ lineup so far. I may just pass this year and use that $$$ to go on a few Mule and or DT/ST Band road trips. I could go to four or five summer Mule shows in the area for what I spend on MJ.
The Wanee lineup is killer!!!!!!! I wish I could afford that.
