Any fans of the Young Rascals?? FELIX, EDDIE, GENE & DINO

I'm listening to the radio here at work and a few songs by the Rascals are playing, and getting a groove from them literally, they are playing GROOVIN' !!!

I'm sure most of you are familiar with their regular oldies hits like "Good Lovin" "It's A Beautiful Morning" and "People Got to Be Free." However I have most of their albums, and I must say they are probably the greatest "blue eyed soul" band from the 60s era. One of the few US bands that rivaled the Beatles & other British invasion bands during that time.

By the time of Sgt. Pepper they also tried to change their style with meaningful songs, longer tracks and more ambitious albums. They even started looking like hippies! Eddie and Gene quit in 1970-71, leaving Felix and Dino (plus a slew of studio musicians). After two final albums the Rascals called it a day. Now they are in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

This is a classic New Jersey band worth digging deeper to hear some great (if dated) soul and rock n roll music.

THE YOUNG RASCALS (1966)
COLLECTIONS (1966)
GROOVIN (1967)
ONCE UPON A DREAM (1967)
FREEDOM SUITE (1968)
SEE (1969)
SEARCH AND NEARNESS (1970)
PEACEFUL WORLD (1971)
ISLAND OF REAL (1972)

I saw them back in the day, when they were Young... always liked their Midnight Hour and Can You Feel It.

Big fan here....Time Peace got a lot of play at my house.

An aside.....one song that almost all bands have to play around here to mollify the drunks is Mustang Sally. I've heard it so many times in the last 40 years that I usually leave the room when a band goes into it. Wilson Pickett's version was pretty cool the first few hundred times I heard it, but enough is enough. The Rascals had a totally unique version on Time Peace, easily my favorite. Very creative rework of a classic, similar to how Gregg and the band rearranged and personalized old blues standards. I've given a few musicians around here the Rascals version, hasn't borne any fruit to date.

Really didn't like after they got "groovey". I enjoy the heck out of their first two lp's.

My first rock show. They played my high school in 1966. Started me on the live music path. Felix definitely was one the best "blue-eyed" soul singers and the band could cook. Good Lovin' is a rock staple. Yes, their version of Mustang Sally was in the pocket. A personal favorite was "Move on Up". Interestingly I purchased "Time Peace" at the same time I bought "Are You Experienced".

My first full length LP was the Rascals Greatest Hits, and I wore it out playing it.

Young Rascals were my first concert ever - at Francis Lewis High School in Flushing, NY...schoolboy outfits and all.

Anybody remember Felix and Gregg's duet at the anti crack concert ("crack is whack") a century or two ago?

Yeah, Spanky was the leader but I always liked Alfalfa.
The boy could sing!
And Buckwheat is just legendary.

Nowadays it's called Felix Cavliere's Rascals. He no longer plays with Eddie Dino or Gene though.

What a great band. They were oh so Soulful. How could you not love a band with such a great singer and so heavy on the Hammond B-3 ?

Dino and Gene have started The New Rascals with two others; they sound pretty good. Great original band. I wishi they could put their differences behind them...Their greatest hits is a regular rotation... Jim

They are one of my all time favorite bands, and among the most underrated. Beautiful songs from Felix and Eddie and Dino was the greatest drummer. As Steve Van Zant said when inducting them into the R+R H.O. F. "To sound that black you had to be Italian!"

Amazingly enough, they recorded Mustang Sally shortly before Wilson Pickett!

Time Peace must be one of, if not in the top 5 or less, greatest hits albums ever
