paly your favorite song ever recorded by my father. For those of you who don't know Tom Dowd would have tured 78 on October 20th and he passed on away October 27th, one year this coming Monday. His last request was to have all his friends and family gather in a room together 1 year after he passed. Close family and friends are having a dinner on Saturday in Miami, and I am still wokring on a tribute concert to pay homage to him.
So when you wake up on Monday morning, or you're driving to work, get home from work... Please jam out to a great ABB song, or any other song that makes you feel warm and fuzz and think of my dad. I promise you he will be smiling at all of us above.
I'm leaving to Miami tomorrow for the annivesary, and won't be able to post from Miami on Monday, beacsue I just got word that my computer down there crashed. But please in honnor of him do what made him smile most; and that is play some dam good music, have a drink and smile.

I will certainly think of your dad when
I listen to the ABB on the 27th, DD.
What a great gift of music he has left for us, he will never be forgotten!
Have a wonderful weekend with your family and friends.

Absolutely. That won't be much of a problem for any of us, since we all love his work so much. In fact, it's quite probable that we would've been playing it on that day anyway...

Daughter Dowd, thanks for inspiring and reminding us to do our part in tribute to your father. I loved that documentary, and good luck with your tribute concert and dinner.

Play it loud

That's always been the question! He loved Live @ Filmore, Otis Blue, the Jazz sessions in general, Aretha, Dusty & Clapton. But, you could never ask him what his fav, sessions were. With all the artists he worked with on all the different types of music, I think it was always a tought question to answer. But the one I mentioned above we're most likely his top likes, becasue he spoke of them the most.

I'll be playing some Coltrane that your Dad recorded. The Filmore show too.
I must have enough of his great stuff to last all day.

Best wishes to the family.

Peace

DD,...Like everyone else here, it would be an honor to play some of my favorite songs that your dad was involved with. Enjoy your time with friends and family down in Miami, and peace be with you and yours. My brother shares the same birthday as your dad.

Peace,...Neil

I cant remember a day when Mr Tom Dowd wasnt a visitor into at least one of the rooms of my mind. The man will never die, just has a new residence where he will live on forever in the hearts of those that love him, and those that have been touched by him in one way or another.

I have told you this before, but your father, in the last year of his life, helped out a brand new fledging magazine with a great two part interview that was in the first and second issues of Gritz. Not a lot of folks would give us the time of day back then, but he did. His stories were great, his enthusiasm was still there. What was even more poignant was hearing about the Allman Brothers putting him in his wheelchair at the side of the stage at a gig in Florida. I pictured it as I read about Derek Trucks kneeling in front of him and asking him questions, which I think was great.

I agree with a lot of the others, it doesn't take an anniversary to listen to music that he was a part of. It will never go away. I wished I would have met him in person, but it wasn't meant to happen.

It's hard to believe it has been a year.

I will look forward to honoring your father - not only on Monday, but everytime I play a tune he was associated with.

I, too, recently lost my father. Just within the past year, I had introduced him to The Allman Brothers by playing a version of "Elizabeth Reed" for him. He enjoyed it and asked me to burn a CD of my favorite Allmans songs. I did manage to send him the disc shortly before his death and take some comfort that I did complete the last thing he asked of me (and know he took some comfort in hearing "Revival", among others.

Thanks to the band and your father for recording that great music I was able to share yet another interest with my father.

Both are in my prayers.

As I was watching the documentary, I was struck by how the one common thread to most of the music that really touched me deep in my soul was Tom Dowd. My main constants in music have been Ray Charles, Stax, Be-Bop (especially Coltrane), and the ABB. I will definitely play some of your dad's work in his honor.

Hey Dana, my friend. I will be thinking of you on the 27th just like I did on the 20th and actually often this whole month.
While your hanging out at the bachelor pad in Miami know that all your brothers and sisters here will be with you in spirit as will your Dad. You'll feel the love surrounding you there and I will be (((vibing))) it your way. Love ya Dana.

On October 27 I will play Tom Dowd
I will play his music very loud,
From every room and my garage,
my neighbors will receive a massive barrage
of Coltrane, Allman, and Dominoes ľall before dinner,
and for the hell of it, I might even play some Skynyrd.

I will most certainly do that. BTW, reading your posts here is something very special. Thanks for the insight you give us on the good ole days. You do it in a very respectful way and makes the tell all journalism so popular today seem so tacky in contrast. I'm sure you have private stories, but you are very classy about sharing what you do....
