I recently started watching some old DVD's I have and it got me thinking about really intense scenes in Movies, or entire Movies. Now I am a pretty big movie buff, so I will only list a couple, and I wanted to see what your cats opinions were. (Just for the hell of it) Only list 2 or 3, save some for everyone....

I have to say Martin Scorsese's The Departed, in it's entirety ranks up there for me. I think it's the only movie I under no circumstances wanted to get up and leave the Theater and go to the Bathroom for fear of missing any part of it! LOL

And this scene still gives me chills everytime, matter of fact, it's on AMC right now, is Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven when he finds out Little Bill killed Ned, and he goes into Greeley's with the shotgun and wreaks havoc on everyone. "You Fat Man, speak up!"

Malcolm X, when X is driving down the road, and everyone watching the movie knows his end is coming, and the soundtrack is playing A Change Gonna Come. Riveting.

The fight between Deniro and Nolte at the end of Scorsese's remake of Cape Fear . . . when Max Cady is sinking, cuffed to that piece of boat (I think it was), speaking in tongues, etc., rain pouring down his face . . . and then nothing but those eyes staring at Nolte . . . doesn't get much more intense than that in my book.

The scene in "Sometimes A Great Notion" when Paul Newman's character is trying to save Richard Jaeckel's character, who is pinned under a log in the water. As the log slowly turns, dragging him under, Newman attempts mouth-to-mouth. When Jaeckel is looking up at Newman through the water, it is unbearable. I recall the way I felt to this day...it was as if my breathing had stopped and I was frozen. That scene has always stayed with me.

Nothing more intense to me than the first 25 minutes or so of 'Saving Private Ryan'. They really demonstrated the sheer chaos, fear, and confusion of that beach landing at Normandy.

Black Narcissus - towards the end where the crazed nun appears through a doorway and stares at the camera with the most intense, mad stare - even remembering it gets the hairs standing on the back of my neck.

Two scenes in No Country For Old Men come to mind. The first is when Chigurh stops at the gas station and has the manager call the coin toss for his life. The second is when Chigurh finds Woody Harrelson's character and brings him back to his room. The phone starts ringing and the tension just builds.

The scene is "Schindler's List" where they take the old rabbi out to
shoot him but the gun jams. The German clears it and it keeps jamming.
Puts in a new clip and it jams as well. The other German offers his gun
and that continues to jam. In the end the disgusted Germans whack him
on the head and walk away. But the whole time, the camera is below the
old rabbi looking up part way past him at the Germans and you're waiting
for the shot to come but doesn't.

That and the knifing scene towards the end of "Saving Private Ryan".

UGH

Another Schindeler's List scene where the kids are hiding in the filth in the latrines to escape the Germans who are rounding up and killing people in one of the camps.

Schindeler's List is probably the best made movie I've ever seen and most likely, I'll never watch it again. No need to.

This one is WAY OBSCURE...but in the movie 'Ulee's Gold'...peter fonda plays this very peaceful, calm, bee farmer with a lot of family issues...well, he gets kidnapped and taken to a swamp to retrieve an ice chest full of money. Theres a scene when the bad guy sets his gun down to get the ice chest out of the mud and Fonda's character is faced with a 'do i grab the gun?' situation. Anyway...its one of the most intense scenes from a movie I can think of. Its a great movie if you havent seen it.

I concur on all the scenes listed above too. Come to think of it, "Jaws" is full of intense scenes as well.
