My ABB sister Lynn called me this morning to give me the sad news that our mutual friend Lori had died in her sleep night before last. Lynn, Lori and their friend Barbie were ardent ABB fans from way back when and would go to all the shows in Atlanta and the Southeast. They could usually be found up front dancing. They were so sexy and beautiful that 96 Rock dubbed them the ABB goddesses. Lori was Goddess # 1 and was the heart and soul of the trio. She really knew how to have fun and always enjoyed the shows to the fullest. I met the Goddesses at my first GABBAfest and thank goodness they were there. Nobody was dancing and having fun, everybody was just sitting there listening to the music and I was just about to think that GABBAfest was a boring snooze fest, when the Goddesses entered the room dancing all over the place. They invited me up to dance with them which of course I did and GABBAfest became one of the highlights of my muscial year from then on. I became very good friends with all of them and we went on several road trips together. We are still good friends and usually meet up with each other at GABBAfest, Wanee and ABB Atlanta and SE shows. We will miss Lori very much. My love and prayers go out to her husband Steve Webb and I know that he will miss her most of all.

This is a tuff one Barb' and especially for my dear friend Lynn from 'days of GABBAfest past'. (Redd1)

We first made it to Macon for the 2nd GABBAfest way back when in the early 90's. I think 3 or 4 of us came that first year..trekking down I-75 from Ohio. What a time we had largely courtesy of GABBA founder Marty Willett and his first 'cabinet' ...Surrelle Pinkston, Alice Babb and Windy Banks(is there an 'L' i there?). The first friends we made that year were Lynn, Lori and Barbie. They were "Godesses'' figuratively and literally. We had a blast with them and they became part of GABBAfest 'legend'. We went back home after that first wonderful weekend and kept in touch with the girls via Marty as a 'turnstyle'--if you will--over the next several months. There was no 'internet' or ALLMAN website in those days! The years have somewhat blurred but within a year or two, GABBAfest came again and lo and behold the small group from Ohio became the "Ohio Delegation" and that year found 17 of us on a rented Winnebago traversing to Macon. Mr. Willlett and I by that time had become fairly close friends and he was aware of the conglomeration heading SOUTH that particular weekend. He was working at the GMHOF at the time and the plan was for us to come to the Hall on that Friday evening if we arrived before 5pm--'quittin' time'. We were running only minutes behind that target time and hurriedly 'swerved' the big RV into the Hall's parking lot just a few minutes past 5. Standing in the near empty parking lot was Marty and --lo and behold--the "Goddesses"...Lynn, Lori and I'm pretty sure Barbie. At first they seemed bewildered to see this carreening vehicle pull in but as we approached, they evidently saw me at the driver's wheel and began to laugh. Marty was aware of the 'load' I had onboard and more or less just stood back an began to laugh even further. The girls' had no idea what, whom--or how many--were about to disembark. I will go to MY grave with the look on their faces when 17 of us walked off that RV into that parking lot. They were at first STUNNED and then laughing hysterically as we all piled off. The 'flipside' of the story is that all of the 'first-timers' with us were suddenly and RIGHT OFF THE BAT greeted by the 'legendary Goddesses' that we had told them about as we traveled "Southbound". As in the years before....we all--as in GABBA tradition-- became ONE and more or less stayed 'hangin together' that entire weekend. I remember specifically that they became close with our friend Tim who ironically also passed away several years ago from the dreaded "BIG C"...much too young.

We continued to visit in those subsequent early GABBA years and they were big supporters in '97 when we brought the band down to play at the GMHOF plaza across the street. When the GABBA wing-ding's became a bit more sporadic in recent years and not in the usual "FALL" slot on the calender....it became tougher to make the trek to Macon on a regular basis. However we have crossed paths in recent years and I can't tell you how tickled I was to see Lynn at the Chastain tailgate party last year. Lori didn't make it but Lynn filled me in that she was doin' OK. I don't mean to overstate anything...but these gals will always be my friends and one of my many great "Allman Brother's Family" memories. I'm very sad tonite and my tho'ts and prayers are with Lynn and Lori's family.

Peaches and love my friends.....

Thoughts and prayers going out to Goddess Lori's family and friends. Your friend sounds like a wonderful woman who lived life largely and with a lot of joy, Barb. Thanks for sharing her story. I'm guessing she's dancing on the clouds now and has some most excellent music accompaniment right now.

Went to Lori's service today in Centre, AL. I followed Lynn, Tommy and Lynn's brother to the funeral home. There were lots of great pictures of her and a very special slide show on the computer accompanied by Warren Hayne's solo Bonaroo cd, I cried the second I heard the music. She was cremated and her vase was on display. It is my understanding the she wants to have her ashes spread in Rose Hill at Cherry Blossom time and wants us all to fly kites in her honor. Barbie (Gina) (Goddess # 3) was there and she lives in the same town. Steve, Lori's husband, was of course sad but held up well during the ceremony. He wants to try to come to Wanee so we are going to try to make sure he makes it there and has friends around him. Her father and sister and sister-in-law spoke at the service. Her father had a letter from her that he had been keeping in his bible for awhile and he asked his other daughter to read it for him, which she did and it was classic Lori through and through. Then her Father read the Bible passage Ecclesiastes 3:1 (for everything there is a season...). Her sister-in-law spoke of how much fun she was and how she was accepted into the family like a sister and how much she loved her brother and made him so happy. It was a very moving ceremony that I will remember fondly.

Thanks Barb and Brodana for the kind words and memories. They seem so long ago and very far away...

Still in shock and deeply saddened at the sudden death of my friend of more than 20 years. I will try and post more about my ABB sister when I can get a grip.

Thank you all for the condolences. *Peace and Love*, Lynn

I finally found the link for Lori's obituary guestbook. Her full name is Lorena Louise Webb. Please sign the guestbook if you can, I know her husband Steve would like to read all the comments. When you post it will not immediately be posted as the Funeral Home must read and approve all comments made and they evidently don't do this every day so be patient. Here is the link:
