I would prefer just the ABB myself,a lot of people like having guest at the shows I guess it gives an element of surprise>if I could only choose 5 of them I would go for chuck leavell, jack pearson, jimmy herring, susan T and devon allman.they are ABB members in my book .

I think no matter the band, guests are cool when unannounced ..."if" they are a "Good" fit. Just bringing someone up on stage because they're in town...or whatever...well, my vote would be no.

I'm not a big fan of the guest spots. It seems that they usaully end up taking the wind out of the sails. That being said, Clapton was awsome when he sat in, but he's a guest on a whole other level.

Generally I'm not a fan of guests at ABB shows, but I must admit I enjoyed most of them during the 40th anniversary Beacon run.

I'm good with just the Brothers but I also enjoy seeing guests sit in once in awhile. And of course this depends on the guest (Eric Clapton - definitely! Kid Rock - umm, not so much )

You guys nailed it. Certain guests are a wonderful treat. Who wouldn't want to see a Carlos Santana sit in with the boys? or BB King?

If they can't get someone amazing, I'd rather they got no one. However, everyone's definition of "amazing" differs....

Guests or no guests, it's all good. The guests are what make some of the Beacon shows so unique though.

I didn't say all guests. Kid Rock would not have been included if I were sending out the invitations. There were far more good guests than bad IMO.

I'm biased by the best beacon performance I've been to (3/26/09). However the others I went to all had guests and they were all great in their own way.

It really depends on the guest. I don't want a guest just for the sake of having one. But if it is someone like Jimmy Herring, Jack Pearson, or Chuck Leavell, that's a different story.

This really is something that is either great or terrible. I think it's safe to say that some of the worst moments in ABB history have been with guests on stage (Kid Rock and Steven Seagall, I'm looking at you). On the other hand, I think the best single moment of music in the last decade of the ABB has been Jessica w/ Chuck Leavell at Jazzfest in 2007. If it's a guest that fits and really adds something to the music, then I'm all for it.

limited guests. i like the bros for 3 hours, with maybe a 1 to 2 song guest spot here and there to mix it up.

No guests unless former member or Susan T
not a multitude of guests - ruins the flow for me

i enjoy the guests at the shows. ABB is a "jam band" and bringing out great musicians to perform with them and give different versions and varieties of their great songs makes ABB unique IMO. The Beacon shows are great because one never knows who will show up and what will be played.

Agreed, on all counts. I'm glad I was at JazzFest to see Chuck with the Brothers.

Agreed, bring someone up who adds some new energy to the mix and I'm all for it. Don't bring up someone who sucks the energy out of the room.

I'd have to say that the NYE Mule show 2 years ago (was it?) when the Gregg Allman Band came out for most of the 3rd set was a pretty outstanding guest set as was the 2nd set that night with Toots and plenty of phenom horns.

That said, I was a bit dismayed to learn that the Brothers have booked Enya for all nights of this May's run.

I know this isn't going to be popular...........but if I never see Susan come out with the band again, that would be fine with me. She's really god on her own, but she slows the show down every time.
