I watched most of that Illini game very cool, and couldn't stay awake for the end of Badgers-Duke game but man was I surprised to watch Sportscenter and learn the Badgers held on.

Oh one more little nugget you might not have heard Lefty, Illinois got national letters of intent from the number 1 and number 2 high school players in the state of Illinois. One of them is a 6'7" Jereme Richmond small forward from my hometown Waukegan. The number one player is a 7 footer Meyers Leonard from downstate Robinson. So much for Bruce weber not being able to recruit.

Congrats Big 10 basketball, including my Buckeyes, winning the Big 10-ACC showdown for the 1st time in 11 tries. Eight teams capable of reaching the Sweet 16.

Love Big 10 basketball. Always happy to see the big 'country strong' guys rough it up in the paint...

That's a pretty big win for Wisco, even this early in the season. I grew up in Madison and went to school there and saw their hoops programs go from terrible in the 80s to near respectability (the Michael Finley years) to terribly boring (the Dick Bennett years) back to near respectability (Bo Ryan era). Even though Dick Bennett's 1940's era squad took the Badgers to a Final Four in 2000, Bo Ryan is the best thing that has happened to that program, with a a conference championship and numerous tourney appearances, but they still can't seem to get the recruits that Marquette lands and seem to choke in the tourney. Then again, Big 10 basketball, with the exception of MSU, has been a few steps slower than the rest of the country for the past 15 or 20 years.

If anyone watched the entire game like I did, somewhere between the six and ten minute mark of the 2nd half the refs dicked over Duke. Duke had the momentum and cut the lead to less than 5 and the refs called a blocking foul on Singler that even the announcers said was clearly a charge and duke should have the ball. Kyle Singler was not under the basket and had established defensive position about 6 seconds before the Wisconsin player went for a layup. Killed Dukes momentum

In general there was a lot more fouls called on Duke than Wisconsin . I hate when games are deceided but such a thing

Matt, thank you. I grew up a lifelong Duke fan in NC and it's nice to hear somebody not hating.....we didn't play well and Bucky shot the lights out, but there was a hefty dish of home cookin' served last night in Madison.

not trying to be ugly here but in the last 10 years Duke has recieved more calls than a hooker giving away freebies

UNC seems to get more calls than anyone.

even if you negate all the fouls not called on wisconsin that was obviously a charge plain and simple. if that was the only foul in the entire 2nd half it was still a game changing call

I like Duke ok, not a Big 10 fan, but one missed call doesn't make a game. It takes 40 minutes.

when it swings the game it does. duke was on a run, run was ended by bad call, wisconsin got the lead back up to 5 or so because of the call and won by 5 points. if duke had gotten the call they could have tied the game and the strategy the last 2-3 minutes would have been entirely different than launching 3's, fouling wisconsin players to put them on the line and thowing bad passes up court to score fast

Anyone who has ever watched college basketball, especially the tourney, knows that 5 points is hardly an insurmountable lead. Good teams come back from more than that in the final minute.

longer than that.

Maryland Fans have been complaining for decades about Duke and UNC getting all the calls from ACC refs.

Christian Laetner should have been tossed from the 92 East Regional final when he stomped Kentucky's Aminu Timberlake when he fell under the basket.

I'm so glad this thread exists so I can continue to revel in this victory! Man that was awesome!

shows how bad wisconsin basketball is that a victory 2 weeks into the season will probably be the only thing to celebrate. in a few weeks duke will still be a nationally ranked team and wisconsin will be fighting for an NCAA tournament bid
