Well, do they? Anybody know?

I'm not talking about low grade recordings, just high grade.

If they do and they haven't been released, then why not?

I'm sure the holy grail 6/26/71 is floating around somewhere. The Fillmore East crew was very good about recording shows, so maybe this one will surface one day.

We could use another Archive show about now.

Agreed. Someone glommed onto that one and his laying low with it.

I agree it's smartass ... jesus ,
it would be different if the SEARCH function on this website didn't suck. (sorry, it does)

also i think it's conceivable that a somewhat 'newbie' may not know about archive-releases --- and if there are some that are "held up" for some reason. I too wonder how many "good" recordings are in the possession of the band - from whatEVER era, matter of fact.

i think there will be a time when fans are begging for an Archive release from the summer of 2000. ... or Dickey/Jack/Woody shows ..

No doubt waiting for us to all be in nursing homes. I would imagine the 40th anniversary would have been good timing if someone had this hidden away

what's your theory, SC, if you don't mind sharing it - why K.W. is holding onto shows? Why? to *never* release them or ?? when?? why/why *not*, principally. please elaborate, thanks!

Peace.

Count me amongst those who consider "archive" releases to be 1976 and before.

right on - i think the word Archive doesn't itself mean that it's "old" - just shows that are recorded well for the record.

I'm betting we'd all be just be this side of disappointed. More than likely the same old set-list. Don't get me wrong, I want to hear it as much as the next guy...

Allmans got a eight tracks reel to reel recorder at early 1970. They did record many shows by themself and Atlanta Pop Fes. and Love Valley Fes. were the examples of their recording which is circulated.
Also, arichive series CDs are the same I think. Not an audience recording, recorded from soundboard.
I think they recorded most of their shows but their qualities are not complete, so I think only a limited shows are available for commercial release. However, I really want to listen to all the shows even though their quality are not so good. It's Duane!
Some of the recorded shows must be lost or damaged, but still many recordings are sleeping in the darkness, I really hope so.
Also I've read at somewhere on the net that someone saw Duane having 2 big reels after their show at 10/16/1971, one day before Duane's last show. I searched for the source but couldn't find now.

Following is the link to Duane and Berry's interview by Jon Tiven and in this interview, Duane talks about the eight track recorder I mentioned above.

Kirk West has a copy of EVERY show the band has ever played.

That's news to me. If Kirk ever said something like that I think this site would be all over it.

"Two hour jam" is not on the usual setlist. And it's still got historic value on its own if it exists. But 38 years would be a long time for this show to have been hidden away.

Me too -- here's one listener that won't bite that hand that feeds so to speak --
don't forget to check the Trades/Vines forum periodically -- there are many friendly accomodating people to trade with -- 1/17/71 Syria Mosque, 2/28/71 Brewer Fieldhouse, 3/20/71 Warehouse, 6/27/71 FE, 8/26/71 A&R Studios, the recent finds of the Georgia Terrace and Gregg-less shows, the many 1970 shows -- all terrific & good-sounding shows, and that's not mentioning the archive releases, which are awesome

You'll be hooked up before you know it

If you send blank CDs & include postage (commonly known as a b&p), you should be in good shape indeed Annarose3

anna, go check the threads in the trade section, there are many offers for shows with no strings attached, as well as for "blanks & postage" (if you don't know what that means, read some of the threads in that section and you will understand - it's free music, and when the source is duplicated correctly onto cd, can be very very very High Quality).

on a tangent: WSP fans have been wanting them to crack the vaults for years, and they are going to finally offer up a bunch of shows from the Mikey days, albeit with minimal "remastering" in order to let the shows be enjoyed by their fans. I will post the link to their info page below. Horace (thier archivist) goes into great detail about some of the ins and outs w/ regards to making shows available from an audiological stand point that may help some ffolkes here.

http://widespreadpanic.com/archive/

mind you, I am not one who must have only a clean and pristine recording to satisfy what I want in an archival recording. i don't mind a some grit or the flubs. I just wish those seen and unseen over in the abb camp would bend a tad and let loose with some of the duane stuff. the original fanbase is not getting any younger. give them and the rest of us a chance to hear skydog wail.
