Love the Mule & was really looking forward to this record..........but after a few listens, i have to say that it does absolutely nothing for me. a couple of decent songs....yes....but overall i find it very boring.

Basically agree with what your saying. Given it a couple of spins so far and it's just not clicking with me like past Mulle albums did. Not passing judgement on the quality of the album by any means, it's just that I haven't caught the groove of it. But I'm not giving up on it either.

It's as good as High & Mighty, if not better.

Love it!

I like it. It's not my favorite Mule album but there are
some damn good cuts on it. I think a couple of the tunes
might have been better suited for a Warren Haynes solo
album. But I like it.

I think its sweet... couple tunes I could do without, but the rest are great. I saw them two weeks ago and they are solid live songs too.

I'm with the original poster. Save for 2 or 3 songs this album is pretty boring and not to mention I don't really like the mixing on it. I mean, I know Warren is known for his voice but I mean, I don't need to have Warren's voice obviously mixed louder than everything else.

I really like Mule, a whole lot, so don't get me wrong. This album just falls flat like Warren's woman tone when he's playing with the Brothers.

Listened to it a few times now and do not like it. There are a few songs I will listen to again, but by and large it will not be in my cd rotation.
I think the songs are lackluster and Warren's solos are no different that his live performances. In short, its boring and Warrens solos are "mailed in". I liked Danny's work on the release and Matt is one hell of a drummer.

Wow!!! I'm totally surprised with all the negativity. To each their own but personally I love this album. It took both 'High and Mighty' and 'Deja Voodoo' much longer to grow on me although I love them both. Don't understand what people's beefs are. I saw half of the new record performed live in Philly and these songs are great IMO. The only song I don't really care for is the last one. I actually had to stop myself from listening to it too much and burning myself out on it.

I am digging it.

Hearing Rev Billy G trade licks with WH is worth the price of admission.

I think this is a very good record,

Mule Merch at Mule.net has the double 180 gram vinyl for pre order

ships Nov 24

I already pre ordered at Music Direct.

I don't think Warren and Billy actually "traded" licks. If I recall, I think Warren said in an interview that the song was already finished and asked Billy if he would play on it, so Warren sent Billy the song and just told him to play over it. So, not really "traded" licks.

Don Wilcock for BluesWax: Did Billy Gibbons’ appearance on By A Thread come about as a result of jamming with you at the Beacon?

Warren Haynes: No, that actually happened first. It happened before that. The last song that we recorded was “Broke Down on The Brazos,” and when we listened back to the take, we just kinda thought, “Wow, it really reminds us of early ZZ Tip,” and came up with the idea of let’s call Billy. Billy and I have been friends for a long time, and I called him, said, “Hey, we cut this track. It sure would cry out for your presence on it,” and he said, “Well, send it to me.” We sent it to him, and he was like, “Yeah, I love it. Let’s do it.” So, he and I sat face to face in a studio in Los Angeles a few days later and overdubbed all the lead guitar stuff, and it was like a thirty-minute process. Thirty minutes later we were eatin’ Mexican food.

"Broke Down On The Brazos" is a great tune and worth the price of admission. Leaving one wishing for a more rocking ... less eclectic (sp?) outing from the Mule at least IMO. BDOTB, "High And Mighty" ... how 'bout an album's worth of rockers?

Well, I have to say, I'm a huge Mule fan and have been since 1995. But I think most of what they have done has had to grow on me. (except both DOSE and HIGH AND MIGHTY which I loved the first second I heard them, and still love to this day).

I like this album, but I haven't totally caught the groove of it yet either. I'm glad they don't just regurgitate the same thing over and over. - And the only album to date I find myself a bit disappointed in is DEJA VOODOO. There are some fantastic songs that I just think were SO surpassed by live versions, I felt like they rushed to get it done. And overall a little too many "ballads" for me. But I even still like it quite a bit.

I don't know what to say about it...other than I think it's GREAT! The grooves grabbed me from the second I put it in, super song writing, IMO?

Love the album!!!

I would like to see them bust out a few more tracks live. Like Scenes From A Troubled Mind & Gordon James (My 2 favorites)
