Aerosmith Says Steven Tyler Has Quit
By Dave Itzkoff

Steven Tyler told a British music magazine that he planned to work on “Brand Tyler.”The sweet emotions that the members of Aerosmith once felt towards each other have apparently come to an end. In an interview with The Las Vegas Sun, the group’s lead guitarist, Joe Perry, said that the singer Steven Tyler quit after a concert in Abu Dhabi. “Steven quit as far as I can tell,” Mr. Perry told The Sun. “I don’t know any more than you do about it.”

Mr. Perry was responding to remarks that Mr. Tyler made in an interview with Classic Rock, a British music magazine, in which Mr. Tyler said that he was preparing to focus on a solo career. “I don’t know what I’m doing yet,” Mr. Tyler said, “but it’s definitely going to be something Steven Tyler: working on the brand of myself - Brand Tyler.”

Mr. Perry said he had had difficulty confirming this with Mr. Tyler because the singer doesn’t return his phone calls. “He’s notorious for that,” Mr. Perry told The Sun. “That’s one thing I’ve learned to live with. I try to overlook it.”

Aerosmith canceled several concerts over the summer amid an injury-plagued season after Mr. Tyler fell from a stage on Aug. 5. A publicist for the band did not immediately return a request for comment.

They'll get back together as soon as Steven realizes no one wants to buy "Brand Tyler" .........

I wrote on here a few years ago that Tyler was far from straight. Many people were upset with me but I call them as I see them. From on stage to backstage, it was obvious that he was NOT sober and the others were. You could tell just from listening to him. Plus friends on the "inside" confirmed my beliefs and still some here were pissed. Sorry I was right.

Over the last few years, there have been more and more incidents like missed shows, falling down and enless rumors. Things have not been good for a while.

Hamilton gets sick with cancer and they replace him for a tour?

Then Tyler had the fall at Sturgis, after which Perry was interviewed and would not call Tyler by name. Calling him only "the singer". He stated that the band were all in agreement except for one. And that the "one" had fallen off their plan (the wagon) and that Perry had no time for that at this stage of his life.

Tyler got a different manager than the others and this has been coming for a while. For other members to contact Tyler, they have to go through the manager. Not hard to tell that things were not going well.

Perry and Tyler have more in common with Phylis Diller than they do rock stars. Both are plastic and try and look 30 while the other members look like seniors.

40 years later and most people do not know that Brad plays a large amount of leads and he is the one that you can hear live. Perry looked cooler I guess.

After years of Lying', Cryin' Dyin' and all those other radio ballads, Aerosmith had their chance with Honkin' On Bobo to redeem but even that came across as a commercial attempt to not be commercial.

I wouldn't hold my breathe if I was you. Will take longer than 6 months just for managers and lawyers to communicate with them.

They just finished some makeup shows and others they had been sued for by the promoter. Some wondered how they made it through those shows without a blowup. Truth is that those 4 shows would have cost them millions to not play.

It is also very timely that Perry speaks out against Tyler just as he (Perry) is releasing a solo album. Imagine that?

Stick a fork in 'em

Sad way to go out - imploding instead of a proper farewell tour that did not gouge the real long time fans.

They could have left a huge final mark: Classics live + a few newer tunes for the casual fan. But Nooooooo

STEVEN TYLER solo project coming in 2010

They have had a hand in our pockets for a long time. So giving the fan a break will never happen but you are right, Billy. They should have.

Now we can look forward to Tyler singing with the Black Eyed Peas on an album produced by Kanye. I am joking but the sad part is that I am probbably right.

Billy despite what Kevin wanted me to do, I should have hit Tyler up for the $20 he owes me from 1981. Now I may never get the chance again.

See, now I liked their late 80s/early 90s run. There's some good stuff in there. But I haven't given them a second thought in about 15 years. Some bands just hang on too long. But I guess if they enjoy playing and people want to see them I can't blame them.

This thread has me wondering...

What other bands held on way too long??

The first thing that comes to my mind is the Beach Boys.

Aerosmith did not hang around too long. They still sell both albums and concert tickets in a major way. They also had the Guitar Hero thing which introduced them to a new younger audience. They are a very viable act still if they (Tyler) could get their act together.

Aerosmith was given a second chance (some would say third or fourth) and they scored big with hit singles and videos. The problem was that many old fans didn't really like the 'new" style and longed for the old days. Aerosmith made the mistake of cutting too many old songs from the setlists and perhaps playing it safe musically and going for singles with outside writers.

But a band that sells out arenas definitely did not hang on too long. They just got too greedy.

Even though I'm a HUGE Fleetwood Mac fan, once they had the reunion of the Rumours five, it was all downhill. Buckingham & Nicks should've stayed as solo acts and let Fleetwood Mac carry on with more "band minded" people.

Aerosmith were pretty much dead in the water until RunMC did a Lazerus on them. They had a good "second run", but it's "time".

I love Fleetwood Mac, Loves me some Stevie Nicks and L Buckingham, but this band is not the same now. I was looking at videos of their current tour online last night and they were bad. Stevie Nicks is my queen, but she needs to hang it up NOW.
