Well, it has been a good run. I saw them the first time in 1999, and most recently in July. 10 years of the Derek Trucks Band.

Well if the band is actually ending as it sounds like it may be from this post, it looks like I may have to go see them when they hit NYC or Peekskill in December.

rico also said on facebook: "I want to correct myself a Hiatus for 2010. So the last days for a long long time is in front of us."

the band is not done by any stretch of my imagination.

How about Jeff Sipe on drums...bet that would be pretty good

A big sigh of relief !!! A haitus of a year isn't that bad especially Derek's plan to get another band with Susan togehter and the planned DTB live cd release.

....why not add jimmy Herring too!

I'd also say Sipe on drums would be a good guess, but we'll have to wait and see....

Interesting... the Oteil part is good news but I hope Todd is leaving on his own accord and not being let go. He's too good of a player and there's too much history there to get edged out by Oteil.

Same for Yonrico if he's not part of the new band. I love watching him. Folks say Todd is having the best time when they play because he's always smiling. I would argue Yonrico is enjoying himself the most.

i don't know where y'all get "the end" from Hiatus, haha ... worry away, i don't care ... it's also not what he said.

he says, "Hiatus 2010, last days for a long time" - year or so = long time. especially to fans.

However, when you're the artist (ask one some time) taking time off has nothing to do with quitting - it's about giving yourself self-time, during which to learn, play, whatever ..... it's o.k. (i do it all the time!)

Peace.

Glad I got to see the great SF show a few months back. Always a joy seeing DTB.

Whatever comes next, I hope it takes us by storm. I want to see Derek continue to push the envelope, take chances and continue to explore unchartered territory. Even it's a band heavily focused on the song, there's still plenty of room for adventure.

For those who heard dTb when it was a four piece, mostly instrumental jamming-ass band...TS is a great bassist.

As dTb became more mainstream, major label, mag covers....Todd's role was more of a traditional rock bassist. The last two shows I heard he didn't even play one solo.

Not to mention switching to the 4 string...

DT wants a hit...not judging, just sayin'. Even one big song swells the house (Clapton).

Not sure what DT wants but I don't really see it being a hit. Considering his musical stylings, he really isn't the hit type. Even with some band involving Susan although I do think there is more chance of exposure and critical acclaim following that path.

Some people love the DTB so I hope for all of you that you see a return at some point. I am not a huge fan myself. Even going back to the early days. I like and appreciate the players but not the songs themselves. I like some more than others but I find they lack intensity at times.

I have taken a few people to see them and no one really liked them. Most like Derek but told me that the band bored them. One friend always jokes with me about them being the band with a percussionist who is sleeping on stage.

So for myself, I look forward to a new development from the Trucks family. Perhaps it is just a needed break for a while which I can also understand.

I think his camp should make an announcement though to let the fans in on the secret.

Maybe they should finalize the line-up first

Todd is a very talented Player. But Oteil is a monster. not losing anything there.

drums; i hope it is jeff (apt q258) sipe or Tyler "The Falcon" Greenwell

The band has an official notice about the "hiatus" on their website and their booking agent has notice that Derek and Susan's "project" will be touring from March through September.

While a hiatus may not sound permanent, if your employer told you that you were being laid off for ten months, would you sit happily waiting to be called back to work? Yonrico and the others have to pay bills and pay for the food they eat. Likewise for the four members of Susan's band and her tech crew (there are four of them).

And if the DT-ST "project" takes off, should they give it up in ten months to re-employ their old band-mates? After a year of both bands touring heavily, Derek and Susan have both said publicly they want to spend more time together, and this is an economically viable way for them to do just that. Maintaining a relationship is pretty tough when you are rarely in the same city as your spouse.
