The rumor mill is crankin'...this is fun! This is the latest to land in my email box...again, 3rd hand, could be totally fake, I have not idea (although WheresEric.com reported in January that the final Australia show was being rescheduled from Wednesday, March 11 to Tuesday, March 10 due to "a touring change"...even if he were going back to Ohio for the week to rest up and showing up at the Beacon on the 19th/20th, there would have been no reason for him to reschedule Tuesday's show in Australia by a mere one day...unless he needed to be in NYC to jam with ABB tonight!)...

I went to see my friend's band play at Buddy Guy Legends tonight in Chicago. Who was there but Buddy himself. Having cocktails at the bar, talkin' with a few younger ladies. He had a shot or two.....then he hit the stage. Played 2 tunes (1 on vox & 1 on guitar/vox). Unreal. Thank God I live in Chicago.

Anyways, ALLMAN BROTHERS RELATED MATERIAL:

I was standing right next to him by the bar after he perfomed & he said 'Yeah man, tomorrow night (03/12) I'm playing with Eric Clapton and the Allman Brothers at the Beacon in New York.'

.....nobody caught it b/c nobody in the vicinity digs the Allmans (except me!!). Nevertheless, unless this is a previously released rumor then I do believe I had some privileged insider info.

EDIT: LMFAO!! I see that this has been posted/discussed in its own thread in this very forum already! Funny how email makes these rumors go full circle so quickly!! Ok, so sorry for reposting...though I'd leave it here just for the humor of it. If you are going to the show tonight I'm sure it will be great not matter who does or doesn't show up to jam with the boys!

Sorry to be a kill-joy , but the special guests seem to be drawing more interest and speculation than what dusty gem might be revived and worked back into the set lists . Don't misunderstand , I'm a fan of almost all of the guests , and realize that they show up at the Beacon because of long-running association with the ABB . But I'm hoping the whole "Who's gonna show up tonight ?" thing has lost all of it's steam by the time Wanee rolls around .

I appreciate your sentiment and understand where you are coming from. Seems to me that the whole guest rumor mill thing is pretty much a Beacon phenomenon and that's ok with me. But even with all the rumors flying around, I don't think anyone here has lost sight of the fact that getting to see/hear Gregg, Butch, Jaimoe, Warren, Derek, Oteil and Mark light it up is really what it is all about!

Can't imagine EC would have changed the date to jam a specific night. Not to say he couldn;t show, but it would be effect not cause. The ABB would surely accomodate him. It's not like he's trying out for the band.

But, if he plays this early in the run we have 2 weeks to drop a notch in excitement.

And, the Boz Scagg and Bonnie Bramlett websites must have been a plot.

PAUL IS DEAD, DUANE AND BERRY ARE ALIVE. DICKIE BETTS DOESN'T OWN A FAX. THIS IS GETTING LIKE THE CIA

i love the special guest aspect of the beacon
and the ABB in general. warren directing traffic
is a beautiful thing to witness. the mega smiles
on everyones face when Taj was running in
place during "leavin' trunk" was priceless.
the respect shown the ABB by the members
of Los Lobos was impressive. it all good, hollywood!
i will say i'm not sure about kid rock showing up?

Amen

Finally a decent reply i can get behind. Lets not lose sight of the fact that all of these 'guests' are getting on the ABB's stage, not the other way around.
I'm not a Phish fan either but those fellas are oozing with talent and I'm sure Trey can assimilate just fine and find some nitch in the brilliance that is live Allman Brothers.

Those jazz cats ... underwhelming??? The world of improvisation, inspiration and experimentation, well thats a world that guys like Chick Corea have lived in their entire musical lives.

We will get another brilliant tour this summer where the ABB status quo, and God bless them for it, will remind us of all things LOVE.

But this is different innit? Or so I've been told. This is the Beacon run, a kind of exclusive, one-of-a-kind party for 2800 or so people for over half of the month of March in the sickest metropolis in the world.

And all of this discourse with the guests and their relation to Duane Allman is puzzling. If this was so staunch a tribute to DA than the guy that should be there everynight is that guy who sits down and plays wearing the beret from the early/middle 90's because from my experience, his sound most reminded me of Duanes, but thats neither here nor there.
Lets be honest, this thing has been a tribute to Duane since he passed ...

This will be my first Beacon visit after seeing them every year since my first show in I think 1993. **** I love this band ... I cannot wait, I'm experiencing breathing problems just reading all the posts, I hope I make it to next week.

If the special guest stuff ended with the Beacon , I wouldn't open my mouth . The last Wanee that Gregg Allman WAS at was a revolving door of bassists on damn near every tune . It so happens I like all of them ... with their respective bands ! Burbridge took in a good portion of the show on the sidelines . That can't be blamed on his then-injured knee because he played his rump off with his band earlier that day .

Speaking for the shows I've attended over the last few years , this has become the norm . There's nothing very special about a "special guest" when it's expected rather than a surprise . I'll keep on going to ABB shows in hopes they'll remember why THEY are the greatest band to ever come out of the U.S. and play shows like they did before the " I heard Clapton's coming " phenomenon .

Trey is better than Warren at guitar. TECHNICALLY speaking. If you know music theory you can listen back to the shows and hear him using really really advanced stuff off the top of his head. Plus there's his composed parts of songs like You Enjoy Myself, Reba, Guyute etc. There's no doubting he's a talented guitar player.

Warren is more along the lines of a singer/songwriter/"soul man". He's got lots of soul and lots of ability. It depends on what your cup of tea is.

If I remember correctly there was a show in March 96 where Gregg couldn't play because of back problems (?) so Page came in at the last minute and covered for him. He probably had to learn the setlist pretty freakin quick in order to pull that off.

Losaleb, it sounds like you are a true fan of the greats. I am glad to hear that true music lovers can find common ground when it comes to to people like the ABB, Van Morrison, Boz Scaggs, Bob Dylan, and The Band. I have been a true music lover and a collector for about 40 years. (I'm only 51) I have music in my collection from just about every style, (no Rap) sorry thats just not music, and there certainly are a lot of choices. I listen to all styles and recognize the "greats" that every style has to offer. I think that most people on this site recognize how fortunate we are to still have an Allman Brothers Band that is relevant, not just a cover band like so many of the 70's bands still out there. Now, when you get to add to the ABB shows like this Beacon Run, with folks like Boz Scaggs, Levon Helm , Taj Mahal, and hopefully, Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, and the other people who are sure to show. Wow! I'd say that we are very blessed. Any seconds?

I read that. Just part of me is hoping that Dickey and Chuck are considered brothers. Hell, Warre, Derek, Oteill and Marc weren't there in 1969. Either way, however, that show will be special and I'll be in the 7th row

Just sayin'!

Did you guys catch Gregg singing a harmony ABOVE Warren on the "blues is alright" tag at the end of "Statesboro"? Awesome... Very cool. Wow!

Well, I was waiting for Boz tonight but I'm guessing he'll be there some other night instead. The show tonight was amazing imo. The Buddy, Trey, and Paige sit-ins were great!!!

I saw Dickey last night in Milwaukee, and my guess is he will not be a guest.
Just a feeling.

Show was great BTW. What a great venue. Small vegas style seating. I had no idea that venue was setup like that.

I have seen all versions of all these great musicians many, many of times over many many years.
One common thought comes to my mind after seeing either the recent ABB, or the recent Dickey and it is only an opinion and a judgement in personal preference.

Dickey Betts is better with the ABB.
The ABB are better with Dickey.

Ok, this make not be worth anything, but a guy I work with told me that tonight's guests (Thu 3/12) will be Trey and Page from Phish...he also told me that the guy who gave him this info got his info from someone else a few weeks ago...see below...given that this "source" was right on for the first two nights, it will be interesting to see if his other info is correct as the run goes on...note Clapton is slated for not just one but TWO nights(!!!)...here is what I was just sent...if nothing else it is more grist for the rumor mill I guess...

My original source has now posted this:

The guy sent me this info two weeks ago and he is right on so far. Here are the other sit-ins:

3/09 - Levon Helm, Taj Mahal
3/10 - Johnny Winter, Los Lobos
3/12 - Trey & Page
3/13 - Boz Scaggs
3/14 - Chick Corea, Lenny White, and possibly Stanley Clarke
3/16 - John Hammond, Bonnie Brownlett (or something close to that) --->Bonnie Bramlett from Delany & Bonnie Very Cool!!!
3/18 - Sheryl Crow
3/19 - Clapton
3/20 - Clapton
3/21 - TBD
3/23 - TBD
3/24 - Billy Gibbons, Sonny Landreth
3/27 - Gary Rossington, Ivan Neville, possibly Kid Rock
3/28 - Weir & Lesh. I also heard it will Kreutzmann and possibly Hart as well Who knows?

Trey is undoubtedly a very talented player and I like him with Phish, but to say he is a better player than Warren technically or not is just crazy in my opinion. Trey is great in the jamming style he plays but Warren masters many more styles than Trey could ever come close to. Like I said, I like Trey but lets hear him rip up some blues or play some slide. Warren is way more diversified IMO.

Well so far so good
I know Dumpstahfunk is playing a late night show
on that Friday nite 3/27, so Ivan Neville isa pretty logical choice , but Kid Rock
please no, let's not even joke there. Now I did see him do a number with some Montgomery Gentry and Merle Haggard which that sounded really cool, but besdies that
don't care to see his mug on stage with the brothers. Of course Gary Rossington will be fun to see rip it up.

One question though re: 3/26? if Butch had stated no guests on Thursday 3/26, would Dickey be considered a guest? , seeing he is a 'Historic Member'
