Hello all.

I've been lurking here for a few weeks. Finally decided to take the plunge.

I've been into the ABB since I first heard 'One Way Out' on the old ABC 'In Concert' show too many years ago...:-) Bought Live At The Fillmore East on a friend's suggestion and was hooked. I'm a big blues and blues-rock guitar fan so this stuff was right up my musical alley.

I also thought Brothers and Sisters and Dickey's more country leaning contributions were cool as well. But I will say I love the more blues oriented stuff a bit more.

Sadly, I lost interest after Enlightened Rouges but got yanked back again after seeing them live in 1993. Warren Haynes made a big impression as did meeting Dickey and Gregg backstage after. One of those in the right place at the right time kinda things...:-)

I saw them again in 1996 at Pine Knob. Great show. Shortly thereafter, I became a dedicated Mulehead when the first GM album came out.

Was a bit disheartned when Dickey was forced out and I still won't take sides on that one. But I did see Dickey play recently and he sounded just fine. But life goes on and people move on. I still respect both camps.

But I just bought ABB Hitting The Note recently and it blew me away. Just a great, great album hands down and true to the original spirit of the band when Duane was still with us. That release is one of the reasons I'm here today. But I also just want to hang out with some kindred spirits who really love the old stuff as well. You all seem like a good group from what I've read. Got room for a new member?

hey, welcome to the club. as you can see i'm fairly a novice myself. i wandered to this site because i was gonna see ABB at Ottawa Bluesfest and wanted to get re-aquainted. I was a mule fan as well. I'm always wondering what regional bands we are often missing just do to lack of exposure. I posted something last night to try to stir up some suggestions from the folks here. Its called something like" what bands do you recommend we listen to"...maybe you have a suggestion for us...I was just introduced to Robert Randolph and the Family...check 'em out, also try some " Indigenous" @ indigenousrocks.com...welcome Les Paul, hope to enjoy your posts

Hello there oldblue, Sandman, and tmckee. I feel welcome already.

Oldblue. To answer your question, the only new blues guitar oriented guy that I've heard recently is a guy named Joe Bonamassa. Saw him in a small club a couple months ago. Bluesy but also very fast.Plays with a lot of passion . His first album A New Day Yesterday is worth hearing.

I'm also big on The North Mississippi All-Stars. Ever hear of them? Very cool blues oriented jam band.

Thanks again for the welcome you all.....

Hey now Les -

Welcome aboard! Here you will find the greatest music fans in the world, relentless in their search for the best. As a fan of blues guitar I suggest you check out Donna Hopkins, one of the "Other HTW Sites" listed above. She's an awesome player ... sings a little, too.

Hey there Hophead...Thanks much for the welcome ! I'll keep Donna in mind. I just heard her name somewhere else recently.

And hello to you too aiqsmydad..

You're right. The Les Paul Custom is not only a very nice sounding axe (big understatement) but they are damn nice looking as well. A Les Paul Custom with a sunburst finish is my dream guitar. Hence the handle. When I think of all the historic music that's been made on a Les Paul.......man!

dad's is all black. he keeps a pic of duane on his desktop on his computer in his classroom, and all the kids insist that it's actually him playing his les paul. and one of them asked me if they could have a tape of an allman brothers cd. so there ya go - spreading the gospel any way we can...

Hey aiqsmydad,

Your Dad sounds like a real cool gent to me...:-)

My Dad was not a musician but bless him...he did tiurn me on to one of my all-time muscical heroes...the great Johnny Cash. My Dad thought Johnny was the bomb and all those records finally rubbed off on my rock and roll self.

One of the nice things about having a community on the web is that you don't have to worry about running out of space. (When the site is run by people as capable as Rowland, anyway. ) So there's always room for more people! Welcome aboard, les_paul_sunburst!
