Eileen mama!

Laura and I came looking for you at Yogi's....but here's the skinny. I left your cell phone number at work (sheesh - brain dead), so we went into Yogi's and asked all the women if they were Eileen!! Needless to say - they weren't!

Sounds like you had an awesome show.

One thing I've noticed and commented on is how much Gregg seems to really be having fun and just enjoying this whole run. Moreso than I have seen in years!

Brilliant!

DA

Eileen, I was with DorothyAnn and we were there til right about the same time. We were right under the three girls dancing on the bar. We walked about halfway through asking the other two women if they were Eileen, and neither of them were, but then we found my buddies Billy and John so we stopped to talk to them. Where were you?

Hi all! So last night was my first ABB concert. (I'm 44.) Anyway, I'm not a diehard fan or anything. I just always liked their music.

Thoughts/questions on the show....

first off, I'd never been to the Beacon, so I was a bit surprised when I saw people walking in with draft beer and beer bottles. I figured it was a "theatre" afterall, so I figured they wouldn't have allowed this. I didn't realize they allowed drinking in the theatre itself. But I guess now I understand that the Beacon is apparently used for CONCERTS, and so they don't maintain it to the same standards as say Broadway theatres.

I was also struck by how passionate ABB fans apparently are. It seems many fans see them every year in concert, no?

Once the concert started, and people began lighting up, I was like "I LOVE it!!" In this day and age of over-regulation, it was so nice to see people doing their own thing, and the theatre staff turning a blind eye to it. I mean, no one in the crowd was misbehaving or anything. Just having a good time.

I had no idea ABB attracted that kind of crowd however, but when I saw the psychadelic images appearing on the screen, esp of the mushrooms, I began to get it. :-)

I have to say that while the band was really tight, I was disappointed that I did not know ONE song that they played. Like I said, I'm not an avid fan, so I don't know all their stuff, but I was hoping to hear Ramblin Man, Melissa, Midnight Rider... stuff like that. Do they never play such songs at their concerts?

I understand Greg Allman was the guy on keyboards, right? Can anyone tell me who the guitarist was, who generally stood nearest to Greg Allman, and who sang lead on a few songs? I really liked his voice.

Also, who was the woman who sang two songs? She ROCKED!!!!

Thanks everybody!!

From left to right on stage, Gregg, Warren, Derek, Oteil. You definitely willl not hear Ramblin Man. They are doing Midnight Rider this run and I have yetl to hear Melissa.

Glad you enjoyed the show and Susan Tedeschi (who is Derek's wife) was excellent!!

Thanks for info. Is there a "reason" why they don't/won't do Ramblin Man? Just curious why you put it that way.

While I find it really hard to believe that you--an ABB virgin--really do exist, I think it's kind of cute, so welcome to the party! Point by point:

You said, I was also struck by how passionate ABB fans apparently are. It seems many fans see them every year in concert, no?

You got it! Not only do the fans see them every year, many people see them @ the legendary "Beacon Run" more than once. It is not uncommon to find people going to three, four or more Beacon shows. Many save their pennies all year just for the Beacon shows. In fact, I often skip the summer shows so I can afford the inevitable extra Beacon gigs. You can't have just one!

You said, I had no idea ABB attracted that kind of crowd however, but when I saw the psychadelic images appearing on the screen, esp of the mushrooms, I began to get it. :-)

Yep, one of my favorite images is the one below, which they didn't use last night. Can you read it? It says, "Peakin' at the Beacon." Now THAT'S my kind of band!

You said, I was hoping to hear Ramblin Man, Melissa, Midnight Rider... stuff like that. Do they never play such songs at their concerts?

You may hear the latter two, but Ramblin' Man is a Dickey Betts song and they tend to stay away from very heavily Dickey-influenced songs these days, although you will find exceptions.

You said, Can anyone tell me who the guitarist was, who generally stood nearest to Greg Allman, and who sang lead on a few songs? I really liked his voice.

Yup, that's Warren Haynes, and if you liked him last night, you'll LOVE him in his other band, Gov't Mule.

And finally, you said, Also, who was the woman who sang two songs? She ROCKED!!!!

As noted by Eileen, that's Susan Tedeschi, who has a respectable career of her own and her band just toured with the Derek Trucks Band. Derek is also known to join Susan with her band onstage from time to time. They have two kids, so I suspect they spend as much time together as possible on the road.

Again, welcome to the party and get yourself back to the Beacon before the run is over!

Thanks for all the info Laura! And thanks "other person" for video clip and awesome photo. HOW did you get such a shot?

OK, now my next question is: what exactly is skunk pot? Last night I was like "there's a skunk on the loose in here!" and my friend was like "no, that's skunk pot". I'd never heard of it before!
