3-20-98 as mentioned is a killer show with accoustic and electric liz reed. I year later to the day 3-20-99 is also an amazing show, Jack really tears into Dimples, holds a single note an incredibly long time. Any Jack show is worth having as he is in my opinion the best to step into Duanes slot. That line up is the closest to the original band in my opinion, Loved it. Not knocking any other lineups as I have 03 Red Rocks on as I type this and the boys were on that nite

Also 30+ years makes me a peach pit, whats up with that?

someone say 'jack pearson' & 'high falls' in the same sentence?

first 5. hi, jules.

i saw the jack version 13 times. the weekend of 3-13 - 3-15-98 (the first peach corps presale, my first beacon show 3rd row center, 2d 4th, 3rd 5th -- lost my voice hollerin' 'you're the man, you show 'em dickey!' by midnight Saturday i was signing), Charlotte 7-4-98, Red Rocks 98, Friday and Saturday at the Fox, and the second weekend of the Beacon in '99. 2 in '97 too, unfortunately early in the summer. it was really clicking there for awhile, but the weekend i was at the beacon, jack was on his way out the door. 3-26-99, man, THAT has some highlights.

sometime when you think it wouldn't be in poor form, i'd love to talk a minute about jack's solo in dreams on 7-4-98. beth and i were very very close, and we remember the moment with an unlikely degree of clarity.

good thread. i can think fo about 15 jack-era shows that have wonderful reputations. incidentally, anyone have the paolo solieri show from late summer '97? listening to that show (and deciding to go to the beacon in 98) really brought me back from the brink of getting off the bus. and i have a sentimental reason for wanting to acquire it.

instead, i'll offer to do the following:
i'll send 1 person 4 copies of the 1 disc High Falls '98 compilation. THAT person will be responsible for mailing it to 3 other people. I sent 12 copies out today to the listserv in honor of Jack's upcoming GABBAFEST appearance, i can do 4 here.

it's 3 versions of HF & 3 more Jack solos from other HF's. 6 Jack solos, not a one like any other. melodic, gorgeous, breathtaking.

Never saw the Jack version of the band, but have many tapes from that era. There is one show that does get overlooked in all of this. It's the 3/21/98 Beacon. There is another Liz Reed that Jackie P. just shreads! I mean his solo is flowing with so much energy, when it comes to Dickey's portion,Betts just lays back and plays some routine licks as if to say,"Jackie owned this one." And the first set closing True Gravity is a stunner as well. Easily to be overlooked from the previous night but still well worth having.

The show that he did filling in for Derek in Huntsville 5-14-05 is pretty killer!

Not to sound like a broken record, but keep your eyes peeled for an Instant Live from the Rosemont 8/13/05.

Regarding Jack, I may have once been blind, but now I see. Very, very talented.

Yeah, rockfish, that was a good one. The band seemed so loose and elastic with him playing with them that night and Jack played so well off of Derek I didn't miss Warren's absence at all. I know that is almost blasphemy around here (sometimes I think people are more into Warren-worship that actually listening to the music) but it was just a very refreshing show.

Two shows from this summer's Jack sit-ins from Toronto Aug.16th. and London Aug.17th. are spectacular.JP hisself has said London was the best of the bunch he did this year. Even had Chuck in Toronto for a way back machine Jessica- at one point I was waiting for Dickey to pipe up" where we at? "...

Brofan,I'm with you that Warren's great but a dose of JP did me a world of good. Closed my eyes a few times and Jack & Derek sounded more like Duane & Dickey than a ANY other guitar combo the band has had since Duane passed..Blasphemey next, I actually prefer Warren with Mule.

I saw Jack four times all at Red Rocks. To this day I tell friends my favorite Allmans show was 8/7/97 with the main set ending with Dreams. Jack was awesome in his derby jamming away. I seem to recall him hitting some really sweet country licks on "Those Eyes Again" and Change My Way of Living". The next year on 8/14/98 I'll never forget Jack rippin' these other-worldy notes during "Liz Reed" while sitting on a bar stool! Of course his acoustic playing was unreall too! I don't know that I've ever heard anyone one with a better right hand on acoustic. I loved his songs "Everyday" and "I'm Not Crying". In fact, I hope that if the Allmans hit the studio in the near future they invite Jack to laydown at least one of these cuts......

If you guys had one or two soundboard type tapes/Cd's to recomend for a person not too familiar with Jack, which ones would it be? Most of the dates on this thread seem to be late 90's shows. I'm not all that familiar with that time of the ABB. Anyway, I appreciate any thoughts.

I loved the Jack period, too. A damn shame he's not represented on a commercial release (sit-ins on recent ILs notwithstanding). Maybe for those of us that aren't tapers we can get HTN to leapfrog to that period for the next Archival release.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread....just starting to finally get out & see the site and stray away from pretty much only posting on the "Anything Goes" section.

I just been listening to a show from 7/3/97 from Walnut Creek, NC. (streamed on Sugarmegs.com)

I'm assuming this is a Jack/Dickey/Oteil show? (the playing of "Soulshine" kind of threw me when looking at the overall set list)

Pretty strong show...what I've heard so far which is pretty much just the first set. Nice "Franklin's Tower" tease into "Blue Sky". And, a smokin' hot "Black Hearted Woman". Killer opening of "DWYNM/NMCTB"...one of the better versions of that I've heard in a while.

Looking forward to "High Falls" coming up in a couple of songs.

EDIT (a bit later in the set): MY GOD!!! What a smokin' "Liz Reed" at this show!
