I think Beggers Banquet is the best Stones album. Some Girls is a good listen

If I had only one Stones record it would be Sticky Fingers.

Yeah I agree about Sticky Fingers. Great songs top to bottom . Does not get much better as far as guitar riffing and soloing on Cant You Hear Me Knocking, That is strong song.

Let it Bleed stands right along there also for me.

Yeah, the article mentions the holy trinity (Beggars, Sticky, Let it Bleed) and Exile as their best stuff. I always put Beggars last in that list, as well, but the article makes a great case for reconsidering it and a really good comparison to Some Girls, which was the first Stones album I bought the day it was actually released.

Hampton '81 was the first time i saw the Stones, which was the Tattoo You tour, an album I always considered it better than Some Girls so maybe i'll create a comparison between Tattoo You and Let it Bleed and bridge the '80's with the '60's...hmm...

Hahaha, good idea. Just follow the Beggars Banquet-Some Girls article format of reaching for anything remotely similar, or not even, lol, e.g. "Just My Imagination" and "Prodigal Son" are a "nod to music crafted by Black Americans". As if the entire repertoire and very inception and existence of the Stones isn't a nod to music crafted by Black Americans. Or compare "Sympathy" and "Miss You" because they are steady grooves. Or "Street Fighting Man" with "Shattered" because of whatever, some inane stretch by a hack rock writer spewing bollocks from his butt.

Me too for sure. That's my favorite Rolling Stones record. Sticky Fingers is my favorite Stones record.

Goats Head Soup has been my obsession lately. Completely underrated album.
My favorite tracks are Silver Train, 100 Years Ago, Hide Your Love, Dancing with Mr. D, Star Star

Yeah love Goats Head Soup. mysterious record. "Coming Down Again" , "Angie", and that hardhitting keyboard on "Heartbreaker" big horns, wow. Its incredible how many different directions they went, always making their own new sounds.

Not sure my fav album or period, but is definitely pre-Some Girls. I muchly enjoy their British pop 65-67 period of Between the Buttons , Aftermath, etc. Exile came across like a big sing-along to me, and never seemed ballsy enough for my taste after the precedent of Sticky Fingers, which was their last raw sound. Live performance Ya-Ya's is excellent. The guitar tone that night on Midnite Rambler was a highwater mark for me as goes Stones music. Mick Taylor era > Woody by a bunch.

In my mind The Stones have three eras, early Brian Jones, then the Mick Taylor, which is by far the best era to me and then the Ron Wood's which is my least favorite.

I do love stuff from all three but the albums with Taylor are all epic!
