After seeing the set list for Mules Halloween show, I got a thought.

Since there can really never could be a "true" Free reunion due to obvious reasons. Why not have a show or two with Paul , Simon Kirke on drums, Warren on guitar and bass player I have not thought of yet.

I am not sure how much of a demand there is for that, but I know that I have an interest (;like that really matters).

The music of Free needs some attention. It seems to get a little lost in the world of Rock and Roll. They put out some great music .Warren would fit perfect
playing that stuff . I mentioned this before but I feel the Mule was cut from the same cloth as them in some regards. More so the early years.

Paul Rodgers is one of the greats. I caught the Queen tour with him on vocals, Great show. I saw a Bad Co show on AXS a couple months back that had Rich Robinson on rhythm guitar and without much focus put on the grit. I know he's doing his thing but can easily handle all required. He's in the upper crust class of riffmasters. IMHO

Great idea jszfunk. Paul, warren, simon and jason newstead would be a pretty awesome lineup. And do an encore with Stormy monday .

Yeah the Queen stuff was pretty cool with Paul. I liked that album they put out. There were some good songs on there and would loved to have heard a follow up.

I was pretty excited when I heard Rich was gonna be in BC last year, but it was more in a supporting role as a guitarist. Kind of disappointed he was used like that, but oh well.

Or just have it be Paul & Simon with the Mule doing a night of Free and Bad Co songs. Nothing wrong with two drummers.

Honestly I think Warren is too technically proficient to play Free. It would sound fake and dumbed down
The raw purity of Kossoff was incredibly simple. most of his tone was deathgrip. Nobody else had it.
I would rather hear a high school garage band or a bar band tear it up. The amateurism would work in their favor. Hell, and it is more likely to actually happen, maybe try it myself before i kick.

. . . Ok, self critic says fake and dumbed down is a poor way of saying it since Warren is a sincere player. Maybe a better choice is it would sound studied, like a musical anthropology professor demonstrating the music of a primitive race.

Point is you gotta be primitive to play primitive.

Not sure I totally agree/buy this ,but we all have opinions and different perspectives.

I guess Warren does not have a problem/not beyond him playing "dumbed down music" by featuring it on Halloween this year, playing a set on New Years eve of ACDC a few
years ago, and I am sure he has at others times also. It just shows how well rounded player
he is and the love of music he has.....great diversity. His playing sounds just fine
to me when he does it, I guess its subjective. I don't think he sounded primitive.

No I meant primitive in a good way. I guess certain music for me depe ds so much on the original musicians I don't like hearing it re-created. Like i love Grateful Dead but without Garcia, no thanks.

btw apologies for raining on a perfectly good dream- I'm sure Warren would make it rock. I am just a freak for that Kossoff sound, one of my biggest influences, even on acoustic. Have every Free studio and bootleg live, total fan. You might feel the same over a Blackmore re-enactment?

I see where you are coming from, I guess that could apply to many scenarios.

yeah ,I really dig his acoustic stuff also.

I don't know, this gal pulls off a pretty good solo from Ritchie!

Not bad . Thought you were gonna lash back with some Jess Greenberg - she could probably nail down a Free tribute show pretty good:
