Here's a poem about the history of rock my 17 year old son wrote for school. He was inspired by Butch and Warren's talks to my class after a Beacon show last March. I'm rewarding him by taking him to Bonnaroo. I hope the ABB don't mind that he's borrowed a title . . .

Title: Where it all Begins

From out of the blues the music grew,
Louisiana’s Leadbelly and Mississippi’s Robert Johnson,
Laid down the lines and strummed the strokes,
That moved Muddy Waters and turned Chester Burnett into Howlin’ Wolf.

Robert Zimmerman borrowed the Wolf’s harmonica,
and Muddy’s electric guitar,
Becoming Bob Dylan,
Who revisited Highway 61.

The Yardbirds sipped Fresh Cream,
Flying down the Delta on Wheels of Fire,
An incandescent power trio,
That transformed the blues into psychedelic sounds.

In Jacksonville and Macon,
Duane, Gregg, Dickey, Jaimoe, Butch and Berry,
Formed the Brotherhood,
And melded Miles’ Kind of Blue into Southern Rock!

Bruce learned how to make his guitar talk,
And romanticized the New Jersey nights.
The Big Man joined the E-street band,
And they raced down Thunder Road.

But the doom of Disco
Blighted the air waves
As leisure suits and big hair bumped around a crystal ball,
Until we knew it was the day that the music died.

After a decade or so
Panic and Moe jammed the scene,
Resurrecting the spirit of Bob, Eric, the Brothers and Bruce.
With the heart felt sounds of Revival!
