Is this going to be grunge music or Rush's 2112 album?

Too bad they couldn't get Jerry Cantrell to sit in again. That would have just been over the top. I can't wait to hear it. As much as I wish I were there, I can't say there's anywhere I would have rather been than a block away for My Morning Jacket

This sounds absolutely unbelievable. Besides the amazing middle set I have ALWAYS wanted to hear War Pigs and Can't You See. Maybe some day. What an historical run. I think that Jorgen is going to turn out to be a tremendous addition. I am looking forward to the future with the Mule. I can't believe no more Mule for me until May.

Doug

Holy Mother of God!!!!!!!!! I got home an hour ago, tried to go to sleep, but the Mule show I just witnessed has me so amped that I can't freakin' sleep. Just an amazing night of music!!!

Let me first say that after my first two encounters, I am totally impressed with Jorgen Carlson. He definetly has jelled very quickly with the band and is not afraid to step up and add his own spice. The bass was definetly louder in the mix than with Andy and I like it a lot.

Now to the show. They opened with a very strong 'Wandering Child' followed by one of the stronger 'Slackjaw Jesebels' I have seen to date. Also a killer 'Thelonius Beck' and a very strong 'About To Rage'. A great opening set. I can't wait for Mule to post the setlist. Because of my brain overload I'm blanking on the rest of the first set, but it was smoking.

Next came the NYE grunge set and is was nothing short of incredible IMHO! They played music from every band I expected them to and they killed it on every one. The first song was an EPIC take on Alice In Chains' 'Here Comes The Rooster'. Of the four bands that they drew from, Alice In Chains is my least favorite but they totally killed it on this one. The place was going nuts by the time that song ended. An awesome version of Soundgarden's 'Black Hole Sun'. From Pearl Jam they did 'Indifference' and a very cool 'Black'. They almost tore the roof off the joint when they did Nirvana's 'Lithium'. My neck was starting to hurt at this point from all of the headbanging. They also did two other Nirvana songs that they played on Saturday, 'All Apologies' which Warren messed up the verses on and 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night'. I'm probably missing something but I will tell you, this show was crazy good. I would reccomend it to everyone on Muletracks.

I forgot to mention that they actually had the guitar player from Chris Cornell's band sit in for the grunge set. Warren couldn't have gotten anyone better for the job than someone who actually tours some of the music they were playing.

Just when I thought things would slow down, they opened the third set with something I had been really wanting to see, a three peice old school 'War Pigs' and it was everything I was hoping for. A very strong 'Bad Little Doggie' which I never get sick of and maybe the best 'Brand New Angel' I have witnessed so far. They did a very cool jazz number that sounded in parts like something from DTB. Then at the end Kevin Kinny came out and they did his song 'Im Going Straight To Hell' which I saw him do with Mule at the Irving Plaza show a two or so years ago. Then they finished with an amazing 'Rocking In The Free World' and an outstanding 'Can't You See'.

This show will stay with me for quite some time. I already wish I had another Mule show in my sights, but this will have to do for now. Can't wait to see the full setlist tomorrow. Now that I have ranted for thirty minutes, maybe I can fall asleep now.

Good night or should I say good morning to all and have a Happy Mule Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angelemerald, I believe the story was that Warren helped get Dave Grohl's mother out of New York after 911. David Grohl returned the favor but sitting in with the Mule sometime after that.

The two shows I caught (27 & 30) were spectacular. 6 shows this year, 15 in all and each show just seems fresher and fresher... I wish I were there tonight, as a grunge theme would be essentially penultimate but as it goes I'll be watching the site and eagerly anticipating an audience pull shortly before a MuleTracks release.

Great video. That was one of the highlights of the show. People who stereotype Derek as a jazzy player and Warren as a rocker should watch this.

I agree. A big highlight for me. Thanks to whoever posted the video!

I looked up the link between Warren and Jeff Young. It's Jorgen. Jorgen played on Jeffs last Cd. Red Clay did rock!

Here is the link to his My Space page:

Temple of the Mule. I though they did I Believe. I thought it was a grunge song. I lack such knowledge about such tunes. Live and learn. I always say. Warren and Mule just rock.

Can't wait to go on tour in 09. : - )
