...just thought since this is the last year for ABB,it might be time for Dickey to sit in for a song or 2 with the Brothers, sometime before the end of the year. He's not touring much & he just played the Beacon with Derek & Susan last year. Maybe Mountain Jam, Peachfest or last Beacon shows would be a good place & time, with the right vibes. It would give Dickey time to perhaps get himself in top shape and focus again, playing w/the Bros 'one last time' before the band ends.

Yeah... no.

I don't think it will happen. Too much bad blood.

They have been playing a few of his songs during the shows. Maybe he'll be a guest on the anniversary night?

It would never happen if Gregg was there, but he may show to help an ailing brother

yeh but...sometimes as people age & mellow...they're able to see past the earlier BS.All Dickie needs to do is "Pick up the phone"& help out & give Greg a break. There is no better time,or place but New York City.If Greg comes back he can rest his voice,if not Kofi can fill in & Dickie can be another Bro onstage.I love the lineup now..none better than the original.Duane or Berry ain't coming back but Dickie still has a choice. They'd blow the roof off New York State!!
I hope it happens.

In an interview with Butch,on one of the Jamband sites,he claims to have invited Dickie on 3 occasions and he's never shown.--Jett

I love Dickey and see him every year, including a couple weeks ago in Ridgefield, CT. I used to think it would be very special, emotional, magic even, to see him on stage with the Brothers again. I don't think that anymore. He is simply not in good enough shape. The booze has taken its toll. Listening to Play All Night and watching the Great Woods DVD is testimony to how much has changed. The ship has sailed indeed.

yep, don't doubt it..remember 20 yrs ago Dickie didn't show 'cause he was drunk & beat his wife & in jail & maybe he's 1 mean sob..but maybe, just maybe he could pull it all together for 1 more time w/ABB.There is no Next year, this is it & he can follow ABB rules for a few nites. And maybe he'd decide to do it for no other reason than to 'prove somebody wrong' & show he's still got the chops...& I hope he's reading this cause he might just get mad enough to show up and prove everyone wrong.I'd like to see the surviving members 1 last time & maybe see a bit of different magic happen again. What do ya say ?

My favorite musician, hands down, forever. But I wouldn't want to see him at the Beacon Run. It would be too sad.

Dickey Betts is a modern Greek tragedy.

yep,Win,Lose or Draw it would still be "good for the soul"for so many..Dickie,Greg,Derek,Butch,Jaimoe,the fans.Dickie & Duane (my fav)used to jam for hours & getting together again with ABB could bring "Closure" for a lot of people (good, bad or ugly).I think he could "pull it off"1 last time.Someone should call him..& just get him to read the posts.

Playing with his own band is one thing, I wish he didn't drink but to show up at the Beacon with no guarantee of what kind of condition he might be in...?

Dickey, not Dickie, sad to say couldn't hold his own anymore with the Brothers. Yea he showed up and played with Derek and Susan but if ya listen to the show and listen to Play All Night, sorry Day and Night in ability.

I love the man but want to remember his playing as it was not how it is. Mileage may vary.

And it was great, wasn't it? We're so lucky to have all the recordings we do.

yep..& the Allman Brothers Band were built"on a gamble" by Duane.Maybe they should go out 1 last time "on a gamble" with Dickie. If the songs were chosen carefully like "High Falls",Blue Sky,Jessica, etc & Jaimoe & Butch know his offbeats on guitar & keep it on time(& were willing along w/Greg) it could work.I don't really think it could hurt anymore than losing Duane & Berry and it may actually be really good for those concerned.A bit of an experiment I know...but might be worth it.Hell ABB have always been about taking chances & the outlaw mentality!whats 1 more time.

Beyond great. Dickey set the standard for writing rock instrumentals. Listen to all the tapes of Dickey and Duane, just stunning the magic they made together. Then the years of the 5 man band, Dickey's guitar carried the torch. The New Year's Eve shows at the Winterland, it was Dickey's guitar and tone that kept me following the band. The then Richard Betts Highway Call cd, is still his best solo work. The comeback of the early 90's, hence the Play All Night cd.

Dickey and Warren reached new heights. That is the Dickey I listen to and remember.

I have numerous DB & GS shows from the late 70's to the present. But to me the shows of the past few years just don't carry the weight as compared to what Derek and Warren are doing. Sad fact of life is time waits for no one, no matter how much we want it too.

Regardless of Dickey showing up and I'm sure the roof would blow off the Beacon, I still do not want to see it. Sometimes you roll the dice and get snake eyes. Not the way to end it. I heard Gregory will be back and him and the boys will take it to the heights it deserves at the Beacon. Bluesky's to ya all.

I was also at the Ridgefield Dickey show. I give the 70 year old dude a lot of credit. Not that he hasn't lost something. Who wouldn't? So has Gregg--be honest. They're old. I think Dickey could totally pull it off. Just come out and do a Liz Reed or Blue Sky. But, I agree with those who say "that ship has sailed." Betts holds Duane and his years with the ABB and Duane as the highlight of his career. If he didn't come out to pay tribute to Duane, having been invited, he's not coming out now. Gregg would have to agree to it, whether he's on stage or not. The Band wouldn't pull a fast one on Gregg. I think Dickey, as a matter of pride over being dismissed, the lawsuit that followed, just will not do it. That makes me sad and I wish it every year, too, and go and see Dickey when I can, but we have to be realistic.

Okay Okay..... There has been about 10,000 train-wreck threads about this over the years. I agree, now would finally be the perfect time for Dickey to join them say for the last night of the run. But that would be about it. Put the feelings aside for just 1-night and have him come out for the last 4 songs or whatever. I have so much respect for the man it would break my heart if he was **** -faced and flopped. So putting my anxiety aside on that subject it would be epic for it to happen. The old level of musicianship won't be there but that's not what it would be about.

But the odds of it happening are highly stacked against it.
