Like to hear from others about what they thought of his speech.

Myself, I saw several problems:

!) How are you going to "guarantee" that all autos sold in the US are made here?

2) There are already laws on the books to keep firearms from the hands of criminals.

3) How could you have voted to not go to war in 2001 when you were a State Senator at the time?

4) Why didn't you mention that you plan on raising taxes?

Just the ones I can think of right now. I'll have to go back over the speech to see if there are other items I want to question.

Ending the convention with
"Born In The USA".

I thought he did an excellent job. It was a good speech, well-presented, and obviously well-received by the 85,000 in attendance.

Jerry, check the transcript. He didn't say he voted against the resolution, he said he stood up and spoke against it, if I recall correctly.

And so much for all the whining from the right about the "Greek temple." It looked like a store front.

And he said, "We should be able to protect the 2nd Amendment, and keep AK-47s out of the hands of criminals."

I agree.

Did Obama mention that I have a coffee table book of my photos available for $40 + s&h called My Kentucky.

Purchasing this book would be good for the economy and makes a great Christmas gift

He did say he wants to help small businesses get started and succeed.

Well then you should place an order.

But, that information isn't on any of the charts I've seen on his tax plans, as presented by some of his spokespeople.
I've seen taxes going pretty much across the board when you factor in the "death tax", capitol gains tax (even I've had to pay some of those on investments, and I definitely ain't rich), and the return to "Clinton era tax rates" as was described on CNN today.

And again, we already have laws on the books to do so. In fact quite a few of those laws.
So that's already been taken care of. What was the purpose of having that in his speech?

I thought it was good, yet a tad lengthy. Some hiighlights:

"Let them own their failure", when referring to the last 8 years.
Eliminate capital gains taxes for startup companies, a downright capitalist idea that I like.
Nuclear power as an option, surprising, and again I'm open to supportive of that.
Drill as a stopgap. That is generous, but will be well received.
Nailed the McCain's celebrity ad by talking about his humble beginnings and family.
Effective in tying McCain to Bush's "tough talk and bad strategy".

His delivery was strong, though he looked totally at ease up there. Cool as a cucumber for someone so young.

I believe your info may be either wrong or misunderstood.

Then Obama needs to find out why HIS PEOPLE are giving out this information.

The man is a true professional. To say he's a great speaker is a huge understatement.

That being said, I disagree with his stance on how the govt is the solution to all people's problems.

Maybe I'm too white and make too much money, but I think he's gonna make this country more dependent on big govt.

It doesn't really matter what I think. He's going to be our next president. He's running against an old 72 yr old who doesn't even use a computer.

Actually, his campaign has given out the information previously mentioned, that your taxes will go down unless you make $200K+ (actually, I believe the money going back to you tapers off at 166K)

This issue was the only one I had a problem with... Im all for 2nd Amendment Rights, but if you think you can keep a gun, any gun, out of the hands of criminals, you are deluded. Criminals, by their very name, commit crimes. Enforce the laws on the books and give the punishment some goddam teeth. Put a gun using criminal behind bars for 20 years, day for day, no parole, no probation, no exceptions.

I think the speech he gave was excellent. He touched on everything he should have and laid to rest issues that the Right Wing Concern Trolls have been concerned about. He said what he wanted to do and how he would pay for it. "Cutting programs" that dont work and supporting the ones that do. Closing tax loopholes. Excellent idea. If he even delivers on half of what he promised, I would be very pleased. I want to read the transcript, but from what I saw, that speech is up there with some of the better political speeches given IMO.

Chris, thats not at all what Obama said....

Ours is a promise that says government cannot solve all our problems, but what it should do is that which we cannot do for ourselves -- protect us from harm and provide every child a decent education; keep our water clean and our toys safe; invest in new schools and new roads and new science and technology.

Our government should work for us, not against us. It should help us, not hurt us. It should ensure opportunity not just for those with the most money and influence, but for every American who's willing to work.

That's the promise of America -- the idea that we are responsible for ourselves, but that we also rise or fall as one nation; the fundamental belief that I am my brother's keeper; I am my sister's keeper.

Didnt the Clinton administration actually give us a surplus in the Federal Defecate by the time he left office?

I liked the speech and there is a good chance I shall be voting for him come November.

Most cases heard in Federal Court can attach as much as 20 years for the use of a firearm in a "federal crime" versus the fact that many states (such as Georgia) attach 7 years to the adjudged sentence. Which means that in Georgia if you commit armed robbery and get a 10 year sentence, you would serve the 7 year firearm time before you start on the sentence for the robbery. This time is not figured into parole or probation consideration.

The problem is that judges aren't giving the extra "mandatory" gun crime sentence for the criminals to serve. So, we already have something like what you mentioned, it just isn't being implemented.

The only thing I disagree with him from what I heard in his speech is about Israel. He said something about protecting our ally Israel. What do we need to protect them from they have the best army in the Middle East they have WMDs. This is one thing we need to change and it is our policy towards Israel.

Yeah, thats good, but at least here, its difficult to prosecute under federal guidelines unless the DA is wililng to do that. Our DA has an ego the size of Montana and likes to keep total control.

Yep...overcrowding of prisons here isnt helping either. There isnt any delineation between those that need to be in prison and those that should be out on probation, such as minor drug offenses.

Looked and sounded very Presidential IMO. Very refreshing after the hack we have been forced to listen to over the last eight years. Now let's see what McCain can do.

How come the Republicans always get to have their convention last? It's an unfair advantage.

I guess you Texans better get to executing those freeloaders a little faster to make room for the next crop.
