I know he has been gone for a while but does anyone think that Dickey will ever join the band again? I for one hope that he does. He sure can play.

As much as I would also like to see that happen, I think that train left the station long ago. I love Dickey, and I just hope he's happy and has peace of mind no matter what he's doing.

I hope so. Not knocking Derek or Warren, but the ABB needs Dickey. They need his songs. They need his solos. Bad or great solos - they fit the ABB like apples in apple pie.

I love Dickey, he's a living legend.

But he would have a hard time hanging "in" with this band now. When they get going they get on fire !. Not that I would not enjoy seeing him jam with them.

But I got about as much chance of joining with them as he does, and I don't play guitar.

I hope I am there if Dickey ever gets to play with the band again...
I will guarantee you this....there will not be a dry eye in the venue.
The emotion of that will be overwhelming, I would venture this. For the band too.

I think we'll see it. If we saw them get together after the Scooter Herring saga, I think they'll get over this one as well.

The fans all want Dickey's return, but it won't happen until Dickey is ALLOWED to play with them. I was thinking about this the other night at DTE. I had great seats, but they had $10 lawn tickets with a great view, and the show didn't reach 2/3 capacity. It would have been a different story had Dickey been in the band. I love the band today, and saw an incredible show, but Dickey is an original who should be in the band now.

There's about as much chance of Dickey rejoining ABB as Mick Taylor returning to the Stones. I miss the more lyrical bent Dickey gave the 'Brothers but after a year of woodshedding with Clapton, Derek has toned down his stridency and expanded his sonic palette. ABB is a different band without Dickey, but still every bit as good. The show I saw the other night is still giving me chills.

not that simple. others don't want to play with a "bully" - (not my words)

but keep beating that dead horse.

It will be crying time for sure. People miss Dickey so much and his contributions to the band are beyond words.

I've never followed along much with these threads, but with the 40th Anniversary coming up and next year's big Beacon run I couldn't help but imagine what it would be like for him to be on stage with the band again.

First things first, ABB doesn't need him. I think any boost in ticket sales due to his would-be return would be short lived. Nothing against him, or the current lineup, ticket sales at the summer shows are what they are and I don't think there is much that would help them at this stage in time.

I don't think he will ever "join" the band again, but might he play with them again before they all hang it up?

I've been out of the music loop lately, but my friend told me something about an open invitation from the band for anyone who has played with them to join them at the 2009 Beacon run. Not sure if that statement is true, but the first thing that came to my mind was "even Dickey?".

I do agree with Brent. I know that my eyes would water up seeing him walk out on stage. Hell I'm almost welling up now just thinking of what that moment would be like.

There is absolutely no guarantee that the Brothers would be selling more tickets with Dickey in the band. Comparing the ABB to how they were drawing 10 years ago, when the music industry was in much, much better shape, doesn't prove anything. With only 1 album since 1995 plus annual tours, it likely would have dropped off anyhow. But the ABB attendance isn't anything to be ashamed of.

Dickey doesn't draw well himself, but that doesn't mean with him in the band it wouldn't help either. There would likely be a bump for a tour or tow if he did return, but at the same time, Warren & Derek have a substantial following of their own. They are in the press very often.

A nearly 40 year old band that can draw the size crowds the Allmans do is impressive. Outside of some of the current country megastars, there are only a handful of U2, Buffett, Stones, Springsteen type classic rockers who could tour every year and sell out like they do. But none of them do actually tour every year (except JB) so there isn't a direct comparison.

Lots of bands from the 70s would love to able to earn what they do in concert.

I should have said: Count me in for wanting to see a Dickey Betts like the one I saw two years ago w/Phil & Friends in ATL playing with the Brothers again one day.

It's a dream of mine and the main reason I come here... I originally became a member here because of my love for the ABB music / with Dickey Betts. But as the years have moved on ..my passion has diminished as well . I've learned things about the individuals that make up this band.. mostly about Butch and some about Gregg and of course the ever bad mouthed Dickey Betts... tsk, tsk shame, shame...which I did not need to know as a fan.. Well with that said... Getting back to my dream which was for everyone, the original 4 and the original roadies all to be together again. I realize now that may be impossible. I really think that Dickey has shown the most restraint in talking about the split publicly, he was the one who also showed respect for Phil Walden when he passed away..putting his personal feelings and bad business adventures aside to go to his service. He seems to step up to the plate when the situations are required but not only because it's the right thing, but because he wants too. Maybe he was hurt and maybe he wasn't when they ultimately let him go. But his release from the ABB could have been what he wanted all along.
If the Allman Brothers Band goes out.. they should go out , together

What we won't see is the reuniting of Duane, Berry, Lamar, Woody or even our beloved Bill Ector on stage, together.
Gregg, Dickey, Butch , and Jai are the founding members left of the Greatest Band in the Land. It would be complete to see them all together again.

The emotional wave of that is so superior , I would never be able to express in it any common words to tell someone who was not there what I had witnessed... the only way to understand the depth of something like that..is to be there .... the whole time rubbing my eyes in disbelief...and crying tears of joy.. and hearing the most beautiful music made from the Allman Brothers Band.

Butch and Dickey... its all about you two .. whats it gonna be ?????????????????????????
