I am sure if you truly knew how much they were making, you probly wouldn't feel that way. Wouldn't it piss you off if you paid 65 for a ticket that they could have sold you for $5? So Ratdog is worth 60 and the mule is worth $5?
Huh????? And I refer to the Ratdog/Mule breakdown.

Even Bobby and Phil charge waaaay too much to see a dead show.
The Dead are no longer playing.

WTF is going on in this country? Corporate America has hijacked rock n roll and it would be nice to have it back. The dream is truly dead. All of the great bands have SOLD OUT and are now puppets of big business themselves. Very sad to see rock n roll go down like this
Who are the 'sell-outs' you refer to?

Bottom line - Ticket prices are up, price of gas is up, gallon of milk has doubled, many artists are charging exhorbitant prices for shows - I imagine some of this is due to the cost of putting on a show has increased (just like the cost of filling my gas tank has more than tripled recently) and some of this is supply and demand...if the public will pay the prices then why not. I personally feel that ABB is keeping their prices down compared to many other bands. I grew up in an era when $3.00 and $5.00 tickets were a reality. I pass on some shows today due to ticket prices (especially if I've seen the band before at those lower ticket prices). This is just my personal choice. I still have a dream, though.

How about a lid -- that's a word that went out with the times -- a "lid" was another word for a bag of weed, an ounce IIRC -- or right around the size of a three-finger bag!!

Stephen - I remember this exactly the way you have described it! Showing our age a tad.

The prices are high, and corporate America is a force to be reckoned with. How many venues do Live Nation control, and how many venues are forced to wear a corporate tag? Gov't Mule has one $5 show, and one free one. Very nice. The rest are about $35 on average with some much higher.

Do you think it's better to sit and say nothing as the economy inflates out of control? The gas prices rose one night to over the $4 mark. it's not cool at all.
Anyway, with that said, at livebandstouring.com they are having a ticket giveaway for the ABB/ Ratdog show in Hartford. I won tickets to the Gov't Mule show in Danbury. I am grateful, so I'm trying to get people to the site.

I received an e-mail from the Borgata Casino Hotel in Atlantic City.

Van Morrison in concert...top price is $500.00

The Eagles in concert...top price is $501.00

Why the $1, I do not know, unless their egos tell them they need to be the highest price act to play that venue.

LMAO!!! $501.00. Next thing you know those Van tickets will be $501.27 or something! (I love Van Morrison but would never pay even $499 to see him live...not even in gold coin)

You folks must have been getting shafted on the three fingers. It was 4 fingers over our way!!

Of course my fingers must have been smaller then in the 6th grade...............LOL. What was your price for it back then. We paid $17.50 for a lid. Oh its Mexican, or Hawaiian, or Columbian, Panama Red we all would brag. Then the Thai Sticks came knocking.

Man, time flies.

But, you are the man!

I loved that commercial. Have not thought about Thai stick in ages. Or Redbud! We did not go in for the finger thing, as an educated consumer, you had to have one of those little handheld scales; that thing paid for itself many times over!

each and everyone in the band are multi millionaires but thats besides the point 45 for the lawn is a bargain you can barely get a half a tank of gas for 45.00.

Of course back in 1973 you could get a halft a tank a gas for 2.00 and a concert ticket for 3.

45.00 bux is just simply not alot of money these days.

I payed $3 for a ticket to a general admission show in the Spring of 1971. I had a part time job making 75 cents per hour. Even then concerts were expensive in relation to my income but worth the price.

That ticket was 4X your hourly wage. Using that math, a $45 ticket in today's market means, $11.25 an hour....

That about says it all...

I will say this: the ABB overpriced their Atlanta shows. The younger crowd that have helped the ABB draw very well in Georgia are not going to fork out that kind of cash. They should have tiered it down more the further you got from the stage. The DMB & WSP crowd that supports the Allmans in Georgia are used to paying $50 max. Not sure about their logic these shows (paricularly since no carry-ins at Chastain).

I just paid $116 for Tom Petty / Winwood reserved tickets. Could have gotten them aftermarket on the lawn for $65. I have only seen Heartbreakers once back in 1991 and never Winwood. Alot of money but I've cut back my housing expenses drastically and I catch my share of cool $10-15 shows around Atlanta....

The ABB did their fair share of free and cheap shows when they were younger. It is their 39th year of touring and the 3 originals are getting along in age and health, so they need to'make hay while the sun is still shining'. The other bands who are as old charge as much or a lot more than the brothers. Gov't Mule vs the ABB is apples vs oranges!

Thanks Deb! It's been a long time coming... I've got some TP fans to meet up with from corresponding some on his boards. They're nice too! And I hate the smileys, but what the hey:

What about capitalism? It's what put the Brothers in position to succeed in the first place. Somebody heard their music, believed in it, and put his money behind the band. Turns out he may have been kind of a thief in the end, but he was the one who put them on the road at the start.

$45.00 for lawn seats is very steep. I live in NY where tickets are usually the most expensive, but the cheap seats for the ABB & Ratdog at Jones Beach are $26.00. Those are the ones I get every year and then I move down a level or two which is easy at Jones Beach.

Thinking a lid was around $20.00 - probably more because of location (Iowa). I'm guessing this was about 1971 or 1972 for that price. How are we supposed to remember? LOL!

Also just saw Honeytribe and DB&GS in Rockford, IL - $8.00

yeah i have heard the stories about lids

but is the 3 finger bag is where the contents was equal to 3 fingers high in the bag??

Ahhhh yes!!! The good old days.

Nickel bag - $5.00 - 1 finger

Dime bag - $10.00 - 2 fingers

Lid - $15.00 - 3 fingers

It used to be just as easy as that back in the day. Much more bang for your buck.

Man! The good ole' days!!!

4 finger oz....$20

buying a quarter & selling 3.....smoke the profit

as to tix prices.....seeing the Beatles in '64 for 3 bucks, seeing the Brothers in '70 for 3.50....(yeah, I got a student id somewhere here... )...........the point is, I didn't have to budget to go see an act back in the day....now it's discretionary.
