Nothing like the full-court press we will see around Sept/Oct of 2012.....Tales of a miraculous recovery, and the fix is in.

GOP candidates are going to have to start blaming Obama for other stuff...maybe they will revisit the birth certificate or how he is weakening America's defenses by killing fewer and fewer Muslims. Racism and religious facism will guarantee the GOP 25-30% of voters, but if these economic numbers continue, not too many more.

BS number. Everyone knows it.

The 'underemployed' number is monstrous too, but you never hear that kind of data. Need to think of quality / level of jobs created... not just one-dimensional 'gross amount' metrics.

I actually like John Crudele's column on Labor stats. He writes for the NY Post, which I know many here don't like, but he is good at explaining how they come up with the numbers. He talks about the Birth/Death Adjustment. This adjustment tries to take into account the number of jobs quietly created by companies being born, or jobs lost because companies go out of business. The government "assumes" that newborn or dying companies are missed by its surveys. And I think we all know what "assuming" does!!

They haven't gotten around to passing that jobs bill yet, but they wasted no time passing S.1867 the National Defense Authorization Act. If you complain too much about anything, they will have the legal authority to send the secret police to pick you up and hold you incognito till hell freezes over.

How do you figure that?? Only about 100,000-plus new jobs were created, not even keeping up with the growth of the population, and the bigger number, 300,000-plus quit looking for work which they use to lower the Jobs number to 8.6%. Really?? You didn't look into these numbers today??

So government should butt out of business but Obama should be held responsible for not creating jobs.

Makes perfect illogical sense.

Obama has given in to just about every GOP demand that were all supposed to benefit the "job creators" and create more jobs. The Bush tax cuts were extended, that was supposed to create jobs. Yet you want to blindly blame Obama for not creating enough jobs. And you're not alone. That's the problem, it's always about the blame and unfortunately it is only gonna got worse as the election cycle heats up.

This situation is not the result of one person, or one election, it's a system gone bad over decades. A person has to sell out to special interests to be elected at the local level, let alone the state or national level. By the time a "politician" gets a seat of any real power anywhere they are already in someone's pocket. The lobbyists (big business) dictate who gets elected, what laws are voted on, an how the votes will go. Ever been to a local party meeting? Not many folks have. It would take starting there, in huge numbers over a decade or two, to change what is going on. That's what we should be occupying.

Derek is right.

http://www.moneynews.com/AndrewPacker/Obama-Unemployment-Lie-jobs/2011/12/0 9/id/420446

Unemployment inched down to 8.6 percent in the United States last week, the lowest since March 2009. But thatís nothing to celebrate. The numbers arenít telling the whole story.

Reporting guidelines have been changed periodically since the early 1980ís, and each revision has made it easier to fudge the numbers. If we were still using the pre-1983 standards, the headline unemployment wouldnít be 8.6 percent.

It would be 21 percent, more than double that.

But two indicators give us an idea for the real unemployment situation in America. The first is the duration of unemployment.

The average duration of unemployment lasted between 15 and 20 weeks in the decade before the market crash. Thatís how long the average worker would spend between getting the pink slip and starting at a new job. Following it, however, the duration has exploded to over 40 weeks. Thatís nine months!

The second key piece of data is the labor participation rate. Itís on the decline, indicating that fewer workers out of the total population are participating in the economy.

In order to get back to the peak employment numbers of 2006, more than a quarter millions jobs need to be created every month between now and the end of 2016, the end of the next presidential term.

They will get the numbers to look even better if the GOP has their way.

http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/1007-other/198327-gop-seeks-to-cut-fe deral-unemployment-benefits

GOP leaders hope to build momentum for an end-of-year tax package with sweeping reforms to federal unemployment benefits. The Republican proposal is expected to reduce the total number of weeks unemployed workers are eligible for aid by as much as 40 weeks and tighten rules for eligibility.

Just like the 'undocumented' immigrants who live here and do not count for statistical purposes, a large segment of Americans will also just cease to exist for statistical purposes, state funding purposes etc.
