That's how I feel, Dave. I love the Wanee festival. I call it my happy place. But if I can't go maybe I'll just do an extra show or two at the Beacon. I sure will miss going to nice, warm Florida in April, though.

That nice warm Florida festival froze me to bone one year (first year I think)! The temperature was in the high 30s one night and man was it cold. Something about a cold night in Florida that seems even colder. We had a communal fire going by the lakeside and I woke up in the morning to find a young girl curled up by the ashes of the fire (embers were still smoldering). Evidently, she had not checked out the weather report and came totally unprepared for cold weather (many did the same that year). There will be no threat of that with a June date

It was the first year, Buzzy. Freezing at night, but the days were nice IIRC.

Hey C Dub!. It's not the weather that has me concerned about a June Wanee date, although it will undoubtedly be a heck of a lot warmer than April. It my job. I think we'll be wide open by June. Like I said, I'll just wait and see.

Wow, I'm in trouble if it's on June 6th. That's my wedding date!

I would actually be willing to change it to the week before or after for Wanee, considering half of my wedding party are Wanee veterans.

But I'm supposed to have to pay a deposit on the facility by next week for the 6th.

Dang! I picked this date specifically to avoid falling on the same date as our usual spring and fall activities!

Miss_allissa... There is a really nice little chapel on Reese Lake if you want to keep the date for your wedding There's even a larger facility, The Grande Hall, where weddings are held - check them both out! http://www.musicliveshere.com/private_parties.asp

Thanks!

actually, we had originally looked at the park to have our wedding (not when a festival was going on, though)

I did see a wedding going on at the chapel during Bear Creek, so I guess that could be an option, though I'm not sure if my family would be down with traveling so far and paying to get into a festival for the wedding.

We'll figure it out, and I'll do my best not to miss Wanee since I haven't missed one yet!

We could start a thread and let everyone guess when they believe Wanee will be. The person who comes closest gets one free admission ticket.

Sound like an idea?

Least it would give us something to do till we find out when it is.

Sounds good, except the person guessing better schedule their vacation accordingly or they'll have to give their ticket to somebody else..

My sources say first weekend in June. Mountain Jam is the last weekend in May, then Wanee, then Bonnaroo.

Not sure why they changed the time, but I'm going to do a little more diggin' this weekend at Christmas Jam...

Peace.
That leaves the hard core festival goer no time to recover financially between festivals. If Wanee attendance gets any bigger than the last two years, it's going to lose a lot of the folks who were drawn to it for its intimate vibe.

In past years, it's always been about The Allman Brothers Band and it's family of bands. In the last couple of years, some really good bands associated with the jam band scene have come. Now that Live Nation is involved, I fear it will be about getting attendance numbers (and profits) up, and not so much about the music and the fans. When Fantasma was running it, it felt familial.

Anyone agree or disagree with my sentiments?

Dave you are correct in this statement. Live Nation is all about money. Ownership of the SOSMP has been told to expect 3 times as many people. This could only be because of a Dead reunion and more jam bands. I have talked to many a soul at Suwannee that has attended Bonnaroo and they are not happy what that has become.

My biggest fear and so does the park is that this will happen in Suwannee. If all of you could just see what a special place this is other than a festival park. People bring their horses every weekend when there is not a festival. This revenue is what the park lives off of. The park right now has a event called Suwannee Lights with 5 million christmas lights. It is awesome.

I have a very special place in my heart for this park as you know. As a member of the park I will do what I can to keep it what it is today. The money that is made from festivals and other events are put back in the park. They need to upgrade the sewer(Mother Teresa I have complained) and also the electrical on River Road keeps going out.

Anyway sorry for the long post but this place is my family and best friends place in heaven. My ashes will be thrown into the river one day. I just hope not to soon

Jesse, are you saying Wanee is on these dates, or is this your best educated guess? And it's going to be a three day festival next year? I guess I can go ahead and plan on not doing the campfire jam for sure if there's music on Thursday.

3 times as many people? Yikes!
SOSMP is such a beautiful place
would hate to see greed take over and trash it...
Bet those Christmas lights are beautiful-
wish we were camping there now!
What are the temps?

Honestly, the scheduling seems like a nightmare.

Mountain Jam is already advertised for May 29 - 31st, 2009

Wanee rumored to be June 4 - 6, 2009

Bonnaroo is already advertised for June 11 - 14th, 2009

Not that I would be going to any of those but Wanee, but I can imagine some might at least attempt to get to at least 2 of three.

Crazy scheduling in my opinion.
