What a great loss, just not the same with out you Jerry. Glad I had many opportunities to catch him play with the Dead. My first show was Englishtown, in 1976, with Marshall Tucker, and New Riders.

That was my first show too!!! I was a ripe 15 yrs. old 9-3-77 and I was hooked for life that day. My brother had turned me on to them a year or so earlier. But not until I saw them live (well, maybe I never actually saw them that day - very far away) did I really get into them.

I also have enjoyed what Sirius did all week. I listened to a cool interview from 1991 with Jerry and Scott Muni - the long-time WNEWFM 102.7 rock DJ. Excellent to hear. RIP Jerry............

There is nothing like a Grateful Dead show!

'some people like licorice and some people really like licorice'

great songs, great memories, great experiences that are recalled every time I play his music..I am thankful for all the shows they recorded and grateful that I got to see them play.

Sirius did a Jerry Week celebration during his birthday and some great interviews with folk. Mountain Girl played some Jerry songs that were classically adapted for the Philadelphia Symphony - she said he would have been tickled that his music was converted to 'highbrow' stuff!

Thanks Eddie P love you

Strangers stopping strangers just to shake their hand.........

Right back at ya Curry...

Thanks for the posts guys, for those that contributed! Jerry's legacy and spirit is alive and well. I wish I could have bumped the entire thread from 3 years ago when it was the 10th Anniversary. The posts went on for like 5 pages when lots of Dead-related stories were told and shared. A little more subdued around here these days I guess...

One more for Jerry...RIP

EddieP, I didn't see the original, so thanks for putting this up again. I cried reading through your post.

This is so true, Curry! Nothing like a GD show or the parking lot scene before the show! Like you, every time I listen to their music waves of memory and emotion wash over me and I'm taken back to a feeling like no other.

Take a listen to this

This was a surprise concert which came during their mid-70s hiatus. People say they heard music coming from the park and went over to see who it was

The show is so mellow and full of great jams! To start off with Help On The way --> Slipknot you knew it was going to be magic!

Here I go. I miss Jerry and love his music now but 13 years ago I had no idea who he was. For me to get into this band was watching the Grateful Dead movie on PBS on High School at like 1:30 in the morning on a Monday. I just couldnt turn it off and that planted the seeds. I miss u Jerry wish I had a chance to see u play.

Been lurking here for a while, and decided to join after reading this thread. (Thanks, Eddie P)

I've been a big Allmans and Dead fan for over 35 years. First saw the both of them at RFK Stadium, Washington D.C. in June 1973. After that show, it was on to Watkins Glen!

Although I never got to see Duane , I got to see Jerry hundreds of times after my wife and I moved to California in 1980. I even got to meet him on one very special night!

Jerry was one special person! I'd bet that he brought more joy to more people than any one single person EVER! I know that he gave me more joy than anyone other than my wife (hey, she's lookin' over my shoulder)

Lookin' forward to seeing the other "Fat Man" this Saturday in Camden!

BTW, I also like your sig pics, Eddie. I saw and talked with Steve many times while living in Ca.

Thanks, Eddie. It's one of mine, also!

The music IS the magic!

Throughout my years, I've had many , what I call, "magical musical moments".

The last words I heard Jerry sing was "Brokedown Palace"!

"Fare you well, fare you well
I love you more than words can tell
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
To rock my soul"

Little did I know at the time!
