First time seeing Matt Schofield last night and man, was I EVER impressed! I remember seeing his name on this website so I'm assuming that some here are familiar with him. Last night was my intro, had never even as much as heard a record.

What gets you first and doesn't go away is the very BRIGHT, effusive tone that Matt gets on his Strat. And I liked that he walked out with one guitar and never changed it once in a blistering one hour 35 minute set. Some guitar players think they need to change their guitar five times during their show; Matt has his one, and he knows how to use it.

Interesting band: Two drummers, which of course is very unexpected for a blues guitarist. Schofield explained that one of them was his "East Coast drummer"; the other guy plays nearly everywhere else and he decided to let them play together. It worked. Other instruments were bass and keyboards.

Schofield at times channels Stevie Ray Vaughan, at times Albert King, but he's not a copycat, not EVEN. He's got his own style and it's very aggressive, in the framework of some good songs. I loved the show.

Schofield is a very good player & performer. I caught him a few years back in Delaware... he played in front of a very small crowd of 50 or so people... but he still brought it. He earned my musical respect that night.

Glad you enjoyed Matt! Some of us have been championing him for a long time now.

Probably not a Strat but an SVL, made by Simon Law.

I agree with you - I like to see a guitarist who is versatile enough to get all the sounds (s)he wants from one instrument. Better still if (s)he goes easy on pedals.

Looking forward to seeing Matt back in London on 28 July.
