I notice their statement DOES NOT MENTION WANEE.

As Wanee had already been announced, seems like Warren and Detek ambushed the band a bit with this.

How are the ABB going to play Wanee without Detek and Warren?

Wanee has yet to announce the performing bands this year. I would assume you don't see the wanee dates on the abb schedule yet for this reason.

They were announced on Peachfest facebook page though. And it said they were the only PA/ NJ dates

Not necessarily the end folks. Anything is possible. Who knows maybe there will be an Allman Brothers Band on tour 30 years from now. Sad to see Warren and Derek go, but not necessarily the end of the line. We have all of 2014 and I am sure there will be summer dates announced at some point. I have seen enough family members sit in over the years, so I think its safe to say the minor leagues are well stocked with talent. Be patient, think positive and we'll know when we're ready to know.

I'm surprised and not surprised. Surprised at how it happened...I always imagined Warren and Derek would stay until Gregg couldn't go on. Not surprised because in the back of my mind, I was shocked at how lucky we were to have the 2 best, and most sought after living guitarists in the world in our Allman Brothers Band. It was a gift from God to have had them for as long as we did.

I wish Derek and Warren the best and hopefully they will have long careers filling the world with great music. What ever the original members do is their own business. They've had one of the greatest runs in music history and I wish them the best too.

As far as replaceable, how could Warren and Derek not be replaceable..??? Duane was replaced, for me he was the most irreplaceable member ever. Yet they moved on without him and keep his band alive for many years

Of all bands i know, this one has just kept going..
I know the news was just as shocking when the split with Dickey happened, so until they bag it officially, I am of the belief that they will be replaced...
I can't imagine the sound without Derek, Warren and Oteil but who knows?
Replacing any one of those guys is a tall order, but all three?
That is Manute Bol tall

It sure does. Porkchopbob, your video is one of the most beautiful things I've ever watched, and it's almost like you made it specifically for this day. I should've added a few words to the end of my post...."i'll never be able to watch porkchopbob's video again......without crying like a little bitch.", lol.

haha, me too, brothah!

Maybe they should hire that 10year old who sat in with Gregg...certainly would give them a long expiration date....Jus Kiddin.....

All this makes me wonder about Gregg's mental state.

Confused about Oteil's situation, talking about waving new songs at the band, and all the while the 2 guitar players were planning on leaving.

It seems beyond the usual ABB clusterf*ck.
I think theres something going on here that's not been let out of the bag...

Although none of them (DT, WH & OB) will ever say it, I'll wager they've just grown tired of it all. No new material, same songs night after night, putting their own projects on hold to keep the dream alive. I'll go a step further and guess that Gregg is extremely stubborn, holds onto the dream and became difficult to reason with.

All three of them leaving at the same time kind of sounds like a conclusion was drawn in private and they decided it was time...

Imho, any attempt to fill these huge shoes is useless. If Warren can't get them into the studio with his writing abilities, no new players can either. Why add anyone else if they are going to continue to play the old songs again and again?

Ride off into the sunset with grace and dignity, let it go. Maybe Gregg can feature some famous players with the GAB as guest performers from time to time.

I would guess anyone coming in would know that they'd be playing the same material, but for what you'd make, monetarily, for most it would be worth it. Plus the honor of playing with one of the greatest bands that ever was

As someone said, I hope they do a proper, Ug, "farewell tour" and give everyone a chance to see An Evening With one last time.

If they go out with Beacon, Wanee and Peachfest only or those with a few dates elsewhere that would be a pretty weak way to end it. Just please do a final lap.

Maybe that's not possible with the economy and demand being what it is but I sure hope they at least make the effort.

Sadly, I think the odds are 50/50 especially with Warren and Derek clearly focusing on their own bands so much.

Btw, the rest of the band is WAY too old to start over again. Particularly since they would need someone like Warren to come in and be guitarist/vocalist and musical director from scratch. The result would not be pretty

Fair enough, but reasoned this way kind of makes it sound very much like an oldies act.

No thanks.

I guess the road does not go on forever...... disappointed yes. shocked... no....Think about how many years???45 to be exact. so many years of fun , friendship , partying.......but to reflect brings many smiles...........I was fortunate to see my first show in 1973 and now 2014 is pretty special... im sure they will find the time to have a few "reunion" concerts... How spoiled have we been over the years... so many great moments..........The flip side is all the family of brothers and sisters that this band has created..... the relationships and support "groups" that have been created thru out all these years..............so I guess the Beacon , and Wanee will be that much more special this 2014............. thanx to Warren and derek for there past 25/15 year stint, and all the cast of musicians to share the stage with the greatest band in the land..............no the road does go on forever.............but good lord i feel like Im dying.............

Got it.....Except you do get the chance from night to night to be creative within the framework. Where if it was the eagles or LS you'd just be playing the record live each night

I don't see Jack coming back. The only hope for the band continuing would be for Dickey and Chuck to return and I doubt that will happen either.

There's no one else good enough to replace them.

It what it is...
I will give them credit for a very interesting off season..

You would be surprised how fast the right people can develop chemistry..
When you get to the top, elite level of musicians, amazing things can happen..
I am a glass half full guy, can you tell? Lol

As you've said "They" are tired of the songs....new people....new enthusiasm

I don't think anyone coming is will make them go back into the studio and make new tunes. But they would have a chance to put new life possibly into the tunes...

There are so many great players that no one even knows about who play little gigs and haven't gotten the break. There are millions upon millions of great players out there.

Because they have families and other careers and want to push their focus on those things.

I talked to Warren about this very instance just a couple years ago. He had been saying for a long time he didn't know how long he'd stay. And the only reason he was still there is because it was so rewarding and because they all got along so well and loved doing it. He said at the same time it was very difficult to do and keep putting Gov't Mule on the side. He wants to slow down, just a bit. (I don't think he will no matter how hard he tries.)

Now Warren is a VERY positive guy, so you can take it any way you want. But he definitely made it clear that the chemistry on and off stage was very positive and it wasn't like all the crazy-ego stuff everyone makes it out to be.

Although at the same time, he did say that though he has contemplated this decision for years, he didn't have any immediate plans to stop playing with them, but he did elude to the fact that he thought Derek would leave sooner than later. Again, for similar reason, to focus on "his own" music and be with his family.

I think they each had a hard time doing this and they probably stayed on much longer than planned. Once they got to the 45th Anniversary they probably thought "we should stick it out 'till the end of the 45th."

That's my .02 cents

This was one of the funniest threads in ABB.com history. Not sure which was my favorite post but "this completely ruined my year" is near or at the top.

It's a band. A great band but just a band, one of many. My cup runneth over.
