I notice their statement DOES NOT MENTION WANEE.

As Wanee had already been announced, seems like Warren and Detek ambushed the band a bit with this.

How are the ABB going to play Wanee without Detek and Warren?

I just posted this on jambands.com when I saw it:

holy **** …that’s it for the allmans
Cannot see them attempting to replace them. And did not see this coming. Always imagined them riding it out with them till the very end – till Gregg, Butch and Jaimoe literally could not do it anymore physically. Derek and Warren are not just the best players that could possibly be doing this with them, they are family through and through. I think that this must then be it for the band.
That said, I cannot understand why they couldn’t keep the name alive just for the Beacon run each March – I find it hard to believe they couldn’t find the time for that given all that the ABB has done for both of them. Surely, however, it’s not disrespect on their part, I’m sure this decision was taken mutually with the knowledge that Gregg, Butch and Jaimoe have had it and were ready to call it quits after this year.
Sad though…always thought they’d all go out together with this lineup till the very end.
Didn’t want to post this to start making predictions but, in the unlikely event that they do decide to go on without Derek and Warren, I’d vote for Jack Pearson and Dickey. But that’s not going to happen. Best of luck to all of them and we’ll see what the following year brings. Who knows.

I'll add to that, that paradoxically it would kind of show amazing determination, hunger and rigor on the 3 original members' part if they did decide to go for new players and actually continue on, even more so if they decided to go for younger players like Luther Dickinson, Anders, Jackie Greene, who knows who else. I wouldn't even want to propose other players even if they did want to continue, it seems almost sacreligious haha. My feeling has always been that they are going out with these two guys. It was almost destiny with those 2, particularly Derek. I don't think they'll want to go on and we'll be seeing the last year of them in 2014, barring some one - offs in the coming years...if the core 3 are physically able and interested enough.
Thanks for everything...they and Dickey have given me and many of us more than they'll ever know.

Would not be surprised if the band still performed sporadically in the next few coming years...

Blame them?... Not at all. I am happy that they are venturing off to further explore their own paths.

The GAB will rise to the occasion....

I won't go see the ABB in a casino. They can continue it if they want, but this thing is over for me after this year. I don't think you will have any trouble getting tickets in 2015.

Get ready for a huge Dead tour with Warren in 2015 and a relentless touring schedule from the TTB. I won't mind getting a good dose of Gov't Mule either. I am really OK with it as long as I can still get my fix of Warren and Derek in whatever they choose to do.

Sad to hear - basically the end of my favorite band. Though I'd be interested in a Herring/Pearson/Leavell 2015 lineup!

Just to add, if it wasn't clear from my previous post, noone else on the planet could replace what Derek and Warren have been doing with the band for nearly 15 years now. As good as some others are, I have to say it would be almost ridiculous for anybody else to attempt to reach the level these guys have been at in this band - and it being one where there is a clear model and a structure to work within, we all know this is not a new band where stylistic changes are going to be made at this point. This means that anyone would have to necessarily try to top what D&W have done, and Dickey and Pearson & Warren before that...and Dickey and Duane before that. It can't be done, especially at this point. D&W have brought it to dizzying, ridiculous heights.
That said, I suppose crazier things have happened before.
But I don't see it this time.

All good things... I survived the breakup of the Beatles, and the end of Pink Floyd with Rick Wright's death. I'll survive this as well. Not angry with Warren and Derek - surprised it didn't happen sooner.

I don't know if the fire marshall would approve of a Dickey, Warren and Derek jam at the beacon

All this makes me wonder about Gregg's mental state.

Confused about Oteil's situation, talking about waving new songs at the band, and all the while the 2 guitar players were planning on leaving.

It seems beyond the usual ABB clusterf*ck.
I think theres something going on here that's not been let out of the bag...

sad but not a shock to anyone paying attention recently. Derek Otiel and Warren are what separated the ABB from the Furthurs and Skynyrds of the classic rock tour scene. I kept going to hear what they did within 40 year old songs not to hear midnight rider for the 200th time. It would be a joke to go on with 2 other guitarists. Those guys are special and the reason they made it without Betts. Would love to see him on stage the fnal night....

Agree with a lot of sentiments expressed here. I'm shocked but not surprised if you know what I mean.

Did a little write up on my blog, but mostly just the release here with some of these thoughts here echoed:
http://alanpaul.net/?p=5541

To those who asked about Wanee, they said "end of the year" not "end of the Beacon."

You will have a few more chances to see them.

Wanee has yet to announce the performing bands this year. I would assume you don't see the wanee dates on the abb schedule yet for this reason.

Not the news I would have picked to end my day with, but we knew this day would come. No surprise, frankly it's been pretty amazing how everyone has juggled all of their respective projects' schedules for as long as they have. Even more amazing when you consider the fork most people stuck in their back in 2000. But the band has been winding down as of late, limiting their tours while Derek and Warren tour the globe. I am sure they will still sit in with each other here and there, for sure, but I can't imagine the remaining core breaking in 2 new guitarists (and a bassist).

I have tickets to a Beacon show (would love to get to 2) and am Wanee-bound. I am going to enjoy every single note and try not to cry. The road goes on forever...

I've been through a lot with this band since the early 90's. I have made it through it all. But I cannot imagine what they could possibly do, unless they brought back Jack. I can handle previous members coming back, but I'm not sure I'm to "start over" again with new players. Part of the problem is that I can't think of any guitar player that I know other than Jack that could bring magic to the band... So unless they bring out some unknowns that just really "hit it", I'm going to be quite a bit pessimistic and I'm normally very optimistic.

But I wish the best to all of the guys.

It sure does. Porkchopbob, your video is one of the most beautiful things I've ever watched, and it's almost like you made it specifically for this day. I should've added a few words to the end of my post...."i'll never be able to watch porkchopbob's video again......without crying like a little bitch.", lol.

I hope, for lack of a better term, their "Farewell Tour" this summer will me a fair number of "An Evening With" in smaller venues for 2 - 3 nights as opposed to a split bill shed tour.
that would be a nice thank you to the fans
