He sure is defensive in this. How about a little gratitude that people are still asking about the book?

Not a good interview. Rather lame, actually.

Yeah, the title grabs you. His new wife. Then it talks in the interview about their engagement. Which one is it. It can't be both.

He keeps saying she'll be like his first wife. I can understand you want to start with a clean slate. Alot of people consider seven a lucky number.

Ah, Dan's interview with Gregg is finally in print. Dan is the son of my friends Naomi and Al "Front Row" Weiss whom some of you have met at the Beacon and other venues. Dan's been a music writer for a few years now. I looked back on the text messages Al sent after the interview and he said Dan described it as "difficult." At least Dan was an interviewer who read the book, and I know he grew up on ABB music, so he knows the subject matter. This telephone interview was held on the 4th of July. Maybe Gregg was in a hurry to light off some firecrackers for Shannon or something.

Heh heh.

Yeah, I'm with you. I thought some of the questions were fair, but obviously Gregg didn't want to go down the road with an answer.

It's been said before that Gregg is not a good interview, and this one is no exception.

A friend of mine said Gregg looked "haggard" on Conan O'Brien. I'd have to go with the same term for the first picture in this interview. But considering what he's been through in the last two years, I guess it's not surprising.

Considering how much of your career you were using drugs, did you have trouble recalling stories for the book, or have to rely on others' accounts?

No, it didn't affect my memory.

Alrighty then!

I am currently reading the book, at about page 150. So far the best thing i have read is that he just did not "get" the Grateful Dead. I always got that impression from him, especially since I never "got" them either. Maybe that is why from a musical standpoint, I have always "gotten" Gregg. Glad they all got along well enough though.

LOL. Firecrackers.

I liked the interview.

Best stuff right here - And do you think because there's no actual leader is the reason you guys have lasted so long?

No, I think our passion toward music is the reason we've lasted for so long.

This cracked me up:

Your mother is 94 years old now, right?

Yeah, and this Sunday she'll be 95.

Has she read the book?

She read it twice.

What did she think?

She loved it.

I remember reading that passage in the book. I may want to go back and reread that piece again. I'm not sure what specifically Gregg doesn't get about the GD? Is it the crowds, appeal, the songs, arrangements, the mystique, etc.

I know The ABB have shared the stage many times over the years with Weir & Lesh. So it can't be a personal thing.

I've seen a bunch of GD shows, and there's nothing like it with the atmosphere, music, vibe, and don't find it hard to get.

Did he ask her if Viagra or Cialis was an important factor to their "relationship" or the number of "zeros" in the balance of his bank account ? Or is it (relationship) based on conversation(s) regarding articles in AARP publications and Young Miss fashion periodicals ?

He is defensive. Hard to talk to, hard to interview. That would make sense.

Best stuff right here - And do you think because there's no actual leader is the reason you guys have lasted so long?

No, I think our passion toward music is the reason we've lasted for so long. [/quot

Also, best album the next one.

He does look haggard in most of the recent pictures. Probably just trying to do to much.

I may have mentioned this already but we have a friend who was dating a much younger woman. When asked what they had to talk about he replied 'My past and her future!' I still say he's not going to marry her. I suppose time will either prove me right or wrong.
