Bonnie Raitt will release her first album in seven years and it’s called Slipstream.

USA Today is reporting that the renowned blues singer and guitarist has been taking a break for the past few years after losing her parents, brother and best friend.

“I took a hiatus from touring and recording to get back in touch with the other part of my life,” Raitt, 62, said in a statement.

The 12-track album features blues, rock and soul including a cover version

Bob Dylan’s “Million Miles” and Loudon Wainwright III’s “You Can’t Fail Me Now.”

“It’s just a new batch of great songs,” said Raitt, who will tour again this year.

Fantastic. It's been a long time since 2005's "Souls Alike."
It'll be great to hear some new material from her.

"Slipstream" comes out on April 10.

Get her to the Beac (on)!

She'd be a great guest and it'd be nice way to jump start her tour!

Souls Alike was a great album. Much less "adult contemporary" than her work in the 1990s. Strong songwriting and it rocked in the right places. Give it a try if you didn't catch it 7 years ago.

I think Bonnie and Gregg had a little fling a long time ago. And agreed, she'd be great on a couple of underplayed gems like:

"Nevertheless" & "Try it one more time" & "Sweet Mama"

Can't wait for her to tour. I missed her last tour when she was joined by Taj Mahal.

Seeing her perform in some smaller venues again will be extremely cool.

Very cool to read that Bonnie will be performing at the Cape Cod Melody Tent.
I hope that she will play in the western part of Mass. as well. Would love to
see her at the Calvin Theater in Northampton, or even Tanglewood in
Lenox. I think the last time she was in my area, she played in Northampton's
Pines Theater in Look Park.

I like Bonnie , but I hope she moves away from the Adult Contemporary sound of her last few. She could benefit from a good producer, maybe T Bone?

In the latest Rolling Stone (with David Bowie) on the cover, there's
an interview with Bonnie. Here's my favorite part of the interview:

Raitt, who parted company with Capitol in 2006, will release the album on her newly formed Redwing Records. "I've been wanting to do my own label for a long time," she says. One key benefit of recording without a major label? More of Raitt's trademark slide guitar. "We let the guitar jams GO," she says. "That's something I haven't really done in the past. We left in the solos we normally would have cut out for singles. We just went for it."

Sweet.

That is great news. I am now even more interested to hear the album. I'm curious though why they would previously cut solos for radio, because I don't think the last couple (great though they were!) got much radio attention whatsoever. The back to basics jammed out approach really worked for Tom Petty last time out (himself, notorious for slickly produced radio hits with compact solos), so I am hoping she has the right batch of songs to make something truly special.

And, maybe I will finally get to see her live???!!!!

The tracklist looks very good to me. 2 Dylan and 2 Randall Bramblett songs, right in my wheelhouse!

Did you hear Souls Alike? It more "organic" and roots sounding than anything she had done in years. I will look forward to hearing more of this new one.
