This Just In: Emerson and Lake Are Aholes ( I delted the unnecessary profanity)
Posted by Michael Gallucci on Fri, Apr 2, 2010 at 6:47 PM

"Welcome back, my friends, to the show we won't perform ..."

Scene's office was closed today, so we were busy getting our feet washed and picking out our Jesus costumes for Easter. (Immature references to Christians and Holy Week)

Still, we had planned to have a review of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake's (two-thirds of super-boring '70s prog combo Emerson, Lake & Palmer) Lakewood Civic Auditorium concert up for you first thing this morning.

But our writer sent us an e-mail last night saying the show didn't happen. It was canceled at the very last second ... like after people were already in their seats and ready for some really long keyboard solos.

A Live Nation rep sent us this update this afternoon: "holy hell.. what a night! Something between the 2 of them happened, caused them to cancel the show- I'm still waiting on final details on what happened. If you want to post that people can get a refund at point of purchase and if they bought their tix last night, have them call our office 440-247-2722 to get a refund back."

So no official word yet about what happened. Other than Keith Emerson and Greg Lake are huge aholes. ( I edited this one too) But you already knew that, right?ŚMichael Gallucci

Saw this in a cleveland paper on line. I do not agree that keith Emerson is boring by any definition of the term, but it seems that the pair are having some huge disagreements causing them to cancel a few of the shows in the beginning of the tour. I was debating about gong to the rescheduled show at the ridgefiled playhouse, but if this is how they treat their fans, I think I will pass.

I saw ELP a couple of times in the late 70's. I didn't find the shows "boring". In fact, the flying piano was pretty darn cool.

On the other hand canceling shows because of bad blood is not cool. In fact I feel canceling shows for nearly any reason is unprofessional.

If Emerson and Lake were coming within an easy drive from Iowa City I'd make a half-hearted effort to attend.

How many tickets were sold prior to the "fight?"

Perhaps there was a family emergency involved....

Oh Rich, no band would cancel any concerts under the guise of a family emergency.

I was reading that the venue holds about 2000 and was almost full.
The two refused to go on right before showtime and sources said they were rehearsing in the cleveland area two days before the show and there were instances of loud arguments and disagreements.
This show was billed as an unplugged version of their musical career. Too much ego got in the way I assume....

I saw ELP several years ago open for Deep Purple at a shed outside of Detroit. And while Deep Purple were pretty good, ELP were unbelievable! I couldn't believe what a great show they put on.

There's the problem right there.

What kind of sound do you get from an unplugged synthesizer????

I think they have a history of disunion.....I used to like the stories of Keith Emerson throwing knives into his organ (!) and amps back in the day.....Man, I was WAY into ELP back in like '72-'73....used to LOVE cranking Pictures At An Exhibition on headphones in the A/V lab in high school.

ELP has never done anything for me. They're good musicians but nothing I'd spend my time or money on.

Saw them twice in the 70's, it was good for the time.

Wouldn't do it now.

ELP is scheduled as a headliner at a London Festival this summer. Hope that reunion show finally does happen.

After the Last Tour they were set to record until Lake insisted he produce it himself without the others.
They took it as an insult.

I always liked their shows. Maybe they can patch things up, if not they can hit the road anyways call it the FU Tour 2010. What happened to the term "the show must go on"???

We saw EL&P on a 1992 reunion tour at Jones Beach. Wife was preggo with 1st born. The majesty and volume must have been significant as it was the 1st time the little fella kicked big time. He's 17 now and looking at colleges. Still kicks but usually from his mouth.

I saw them twice in the 70's with the Brain Salad Surgery tour being one of my favorite concerts. It is disappointing that they did this to their fans. One reason I was impressed with them back then was because 45 minutes into the show, the police came out and interrupted Greg Lake 2 or 3 minutes into a song. They wanted the crowd to move back from the stage and the crowd was very angry. I could see Emerson was pissed but as a cop waved his baton at the people he got on his piano and did the old "chase" music very sarcastically and broke the tension causing everyone to laugh at this idiot. After the cops left the stage, Greg Lake said, 'Now where were we before we were so rudely interrupted' and the place erupted. They then proceeded to start the song over and I thought they were total class!
Back in the 90's, I took my then 14 year old daughter and her friend to see Oasis in Charlotte. There were a thousand people standing outside wondering what the delay was when someone came out and said the show was cancelled! It turns out the brothers Gallagher had been fighting at the hotel. It really ticked me off looking at all those disappointed kids. I hope Emerson and Lake get it together, how can you be like that when you get that old?

Dude, real meaningful well reasoned opinion. Thanks for contributing.

They cancelled their first three dates. They are supposed to begin their shows this Monday in Maryland. NYC is later this week. We shall see. There is another thread where Keith Emerson indicated on his site that he was not happy with the sound of the material and felt they were not sufficiently prepared to go on. Sounds like bs to me.
