MANASSAS, Va. - A Prince William County official has proposed freezing new housing construction for a year in response to northern Virginia's worsening traffic congestion.
Supervisor W.S. Covington III introduced the resolution last week. On Dec. 5, supervisors will discuss the proposal, which surprised Covington's colleagues and horrified some housing industry officials.

Hey Jim,

Hope you and yours are doing well,

Hmmm, maybe a home improvement company (kitchens and baths) might be in order, since people are likely to stay put for a while.

Truth is, the housing market around here has grown so much and prices went up so fast in the last few years that people who putting their houses on the market nowadays, are finding that it's taking much longer to sell them, and when they do sell they're having to take less money and offer more incentives than would have a year ago. Bottom line, the housing market in Prince William County is WAYYYY over saturated and still over priced. Hate to say this, but many people who bought in the last three years and want to sell now are going to find themselves in an "upside down" situation (iwo, owe more money on the house, than what they can sell it for). Of course, continued building is just going to keep adding to the problem. If it was up to me, I would welcome a new housing construstion freeze. Maybe that way they can catch up with the roads.

Hey Matt,

Good hearing from you. Hope you and yours are doing fine, also. What I really like to do is "head for the hill" (preferably in NC), of course, Miss Bethie is being "beachy" about it (Her brother is moving to Wilmington). Hopefully in the next couple of years will figure out which end of Carolina to head to. 25 years in Northern Virginia is enough.
