Just heard that Noel Redding recently passed away, although I can't confirm it with a link or anything. Believe he was only.... 57.

Hmph. Kinda weird vibe to know that there is only one of the Experience left.

Bummer. Noel was a gifted musician. He was actually a pretty good guitarist, also. I either read, or saw in one of the Hendrix documentaries that Noel was frustrated because sometimes Hendrix would re-record (i.e. play them himself) the bass lines in a lot of the songs. It's too bad that Noel and Mitch Mitchell never got to hook up with another powerful guitarist (or did they?). The last that I heard of Noel was that he was playing "folkie" sets in pubs throughout the U.K.. In my mind I'll always have the image of Noel, Jimi and Mitch wearing those "puffy shirts" with the 60's era Dylan haircuts.

Noel was on record of absolutely hating Mitch Mitchell for some derogatory comments he made about his wife...no chance of them getting together. Also there is a discrepency as to Noel's actual age---some reports have him at 67...strange. Also interesting is the news that came to light regarding the amount and variety of drugs ingested by Jimi the day he died...news that Noel brought out 3 years ago...specifically regarding the Elvis like cocktail he had ingested along with a little acid and smack just for good measure. This was all according to Noel in an interview he gave almost 3 years ago to the day. One more little tidbit from my trivia fillled morning is the fact that Noel never received .01 for/from musical royalties from the Jimi Hendrix Experience...from 100,000,000 albums sold he figured he was owed $20,000,000...but would have settled for $10,000,000.

Noel's mother just passed away a week or so ago, also. I believe he signed away any royalies in the early seventies for a flat fee of $100,000 to pay some outstanding debts. Bummer...I'm sure nobody imagined back then that everything would be rereleased on CD. Some friends of mine backed Noel on a small northeast club tour back in 90-91. I got to meet and hang with him for a bit...a very kind, gentle soul...funny as hell too. I have some fond memories of that time...

Too bad. Great bassist and from what I've read a good dude. Will have to break out a little ''Axis : Bold As Love'', and ''Electricladyland'' when I get home tonight. Hendrix was what got me into ''rock'' music, specifically ''The Jimi Hendrix Experience Smash Hits''.
