The lunar eclipse got me thinking about the heavens and such. Ever seen anything in the sky that was unusual, whether it be a particularly remarkable meteor, comet or just something you cant explain? If you've been abducted by aliens and they did weird things to you, please advise also.
Here's mine: A few years ago, toward the end of twilight, I looked up and saw what looked to be the slowest meteor I've ever seen. Had a definite tail and the thing was visible for about 10 sec as I watched it cross almost the entire sky before I lost the view in some trees. It traveled nearly N-S and was about 20 degrees up from the horizon. It was too fast for a jet and slower than a meteor. My newspaper has this feature where readers can pose questions and someone else who had seen it wrote in and the paper gave some lame explanation about it being a plane. I wrote in and said it was no plane and fortunately some local astronomy club members also saw it and wrote in that they thought it was likely some manmade space junk reentering. I never once thought it was a UFO, although technically that's what it was.

Yes, a UFO but probably not an alien vessel.
I don't think I've seen a fireball that long, Brock, but I've seen a few good ones. Occasionally, I'll go out into the country for a meteor shower, and there will infrequently be a huge one. I've never heard a fireball yet, though, which some people have.
Hokey smokes--look at this one!

"An Unusual Event Over South Wales
Credit & Copyright: Jon Burnett
Explanation: Jon Burnett, a teenager from South Wales, UK, was photographing some friends skateboarding last week when the sky did something very strange. By diverting his camera, he was able to document this rare sky event and capture one of the more spectacular sky images yet recorded. Roughly four minutes later, he took another picture of the dispersing trail.* What is it? Experts disagree. The first guess was a sofa-sized rock that exploded as a daytime fireball, but perhaps a better hypothesis is an unusual airplane contrail reflecting the setting Sun. {Boo-oo!}" {Well, since Burnett never claimed that the "fireball" was moving, and see the follow-up pic at *, then contrail might work.}

Here's a legit fireball, with an interesting story:

I once woke up on a alien ship. I was in a room on a steel table. the room was all shiney.
A presence told me to go back to sleep, I did and I woke up in my room later.

I saw a film the other night that starred the late Sun Ra. That dude was from Saturn, I do believe. ____________________ Music is love, and love is music, if you know what I mean.

Great photos Peter, mine was nowhere that spectacular. I don't recall the head being as large as the photos show. I would assume a bigger burn would result from a more acute entry from the object. If it came from elsewhere, like the asteroid belt, it would be a more direct hit and a more spectacular sight, though shorter in duration. The thing I saw, if it had already been in earth orbit, would likely enter more gradually, and therefore be of a longer duration. I suppose if we have a moon in orbit, there are lesser rocks circling us, and my sighting might have been one of those or some old Saturn service module, don't you think?
Also, ever try to locate satellites? My hiking friends and I have a game at night to see who can find the most. They look like dim stars and usually take 20 or more seconds to leave our view. I am told those in N-S orbits are defense dept ones, E-W, the more common communications ones. Must have very clear skies to find them, never saw one from GA, usually out west. ____________________
