That show is no different than the radio....they both have pre-packaged performers that are hoping to bank in on fame and fortune with minute amounts of talent. There are probably thousands of harp players out there that are as good as him or better but you don't see the television stations giving them money. Did I forget to mention that they have to look a certain way too? I'llk take Thom Doucette and y'all can have Taylor Hicks

Not a big AI fan but he did have to try out and then against all odds made it through and actually won. Just because a person tries out doesn't mean that musically they suck or haven't spent time playing great tunes. I know some real talented people who have tried out and failed.

Probably because it isn't based on talent(your friends probably had more talent than the eventual winner)...if this was the case than Ashlie Simpson wouldn't even be in the music business which of course controls American Idol to some degree

Music is all about business and which audience you are targeting. There are all types of degrees of talent, it is all a matter of taste. I too find Ashlee Simpson talentless but she sure appeals to a lot of others folks. And she hasn't even taken off her clothes yet.

i am not saying the guy is the second coming of sonnyboy williamson. just that the music he likes is the music i and i would think we like . And he seems to feel it when he plays . as for looks i don't think he has the pop look . anyway i hope he jams out some great tunes and puts out an awesome album , the music industry can sure use some new blood. Anyone hear a fan of TAB BENOIT ?

I definitely know how the music business works....it is basically ruthless and evil. It is just such a shame to see the kinds of crap that the major companies spew out especially to the kids. The talent levels are so low that the kids are amazed when they see talented bands like the ABB who can actually play something called INSTRUMENTS

As Charlie Daniels said the music industry is ruled by tin eared tyrants" ! If music was just about talent we would all be listening to yo yo ma or some classical virtuoso ! Its a mix of talent and performance and style. Guys like ronnie earl , tab benoit have been at it for years and never get radio play.

I think Mr Hicks is doing the right thing by exposing himself (no not that way) to fans like us.
I think he is a very talented guy. He has got the whole Soul patrol thing down.
He can play the Harmonica that is for sure.

I'll buy his first post Idol CD.

I did not think he was the best on Idol, but I did enjoy him. Now I am so sick of the Ford commercials, which seem to play twice for every station break, that I need a break from him.

I think what Taylor did was stay in the middle of the pack by putting on good steady performances each week. All the other wannabes showed themselves to be one trick ponys and people got sick of the screaming and poor singing.

I wouldn't expect too much from his CD. It is not under his control at all. AI is a promotional tool for the record company and they will control what goes on the album as they have with all other winners. I doubt they will pack the album full of songs that the average fan here will run out to buy. Later releases may be different but not at the beginning. Sad but true. I also would not expect to hear him blowing harp all over the CD.
