What about some of the Mahavishnu Orchestra stuff? I can really hear Warren playing the $hit out of some of that stuff. I also think they could do a nice kick ass version of Funk #49.

James Taylor's "Fire and Rain". Probably my favorite bar song, other than the ABB. Would love to hear a Mule version of this.

I was listening to Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes Live at The Greek yesterday and I remembered this thread as I was listening to it and it occured to me that Warren's voice would fit most Zeppelin songs quite well. So that got me thinking of some Zep tunes that I'd love to hear and the list is " In my Time of Dying" "The Wanton Song " "The Rover " "Trampled Underfoot" "When the Levee Breaks " "Misty Mountain Hop " "Ten Years Gone " that last one being the one I'd most like to hear.

The Mule has done Dear Mr. Fantasy once before, I forget the date but it's with Gordie Johnson and Kelly Hoppe of Big Sugar, great show. 3/9/99 maybe? Warren also does Dear Mr. Fantasy quite frequently with the Q.

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath off of Black Sabbath.

With a nice long slide solo in the vein of David Gilmour on One of These Days I'm Going to Cut you Into Little Pieces.

Or I suppose they could always do One of These Days I'm Going to Cut you Into Little Pieces. Or mabye Interstellar Overdrive. Or how about The Nile Song (from Relics and "More," I think), Floyd's hardest rocker, IMO. Have a Cigar? Not Now John?

There are so many good tunes that the Mule could burn on . . . here's to a long adventurous career!

I've been thinking of this one for a few years now - a cover of Chicago's "South California Purples" from their first album. The Mule sounds like early, GOOD Chicago without the horns anyway, don't ya think? Haynes could do Terry Kath better than Kath just about!
Also, on that Beatles thread, maybe a neat version of "Not Guilty" from the Beatles Anthology series. It is a Harrison song, and cool as hell, with a great riff that Warren could really get going on.
This is a great thread - thanks for starting it!

Anything from Pink Floyd's"Animals" would be sweet!
I'd love to hear more covers of Traffic,ZZTop,Zeppelin,Rolling Stones....I always love seeing them perform anything by those bands!
Maybe a little Doors(Backdoor Man...Soul Kitchen...maybe even a lil LA Woman)
Maybe even a Guess Who if you really wanna go out there!(No sugar Tonight)
I'm just playing along here....

I've said this before, but I never understood why in some sircles it's considered lowering a band's standards to do covers. Now I guess if a band is nothing but a cover band, I could see that, but an established band doing a cover strikes me as a tribute.

Yeah... but it's been a while (by Warren's standards, anyway) since they've had any new songs. With the bassists changing all the time, they didn't have the chance to write new stuff and it was easier to pick stuff they already knew. That's going to change soon.

Sometimes I think that the covers are becoming bigger than the entire Mule show itself. There are a lot of fans that are there to see Warren and do not know much of the Mule's songs. Evidence of this is when he breaks into "Feeling Alright" and the place goes nuts and/or bananas after waiting in anticipation for the covers to begin. I hope that this next Mule Album rips up hard and starts making more believers out of music fans across the spectrum.

Face it folks, the Mule could cover just about anything...and often better than the original version. I always liked ZZ Top, but when the Mule does one of their songs there ain't no comparison. Eeeee-awwwwww!

No Peter Lemonjello is an inside and rather obscure joke that I am waiting for someone to pick up on. I thought that it was Blind Mello Jelly or something to that effect. I don't think that Jello was available to people in post reconstructive/Jim Crowe Southern States.
